Does anyone know whether the vaccine prevents one from being a carrier?

And could I humbly suggest that those who do get the vaccine, continue with social distancing, mask wearing, good hygiene etc - in case the vaccine isn't 100%.

@andy-bruner

I erased the original post so as to create a poll which was a no-go.

My 95 yo mother in law is in an assisted living facility that just today announced COVID-19 was detected among one staff member and one resident. The place is in total lockdown. Now itƒ??s just a matter of when. No COVID-19 vaccine has been distributed within the facility as of today.

I'll get the vaccine whenever I can.?ÿ Doc told me when I had the PE in March there was about a 1 in 4 chance Covid would take me out if I caught it.

Haven't ever taken the flu vaccine and haven't had the flu since I was 20. Got all my childhood vaccines and never had any of the typical childhood diseases (mumps, measles, chickenpox, etc.)

Definitely will get this vaccine. I might be unrealistic but I see a definite benefit and evaluate the risk being realized at the same level of winning the lottery. So for me it is a nobrainer. I don't understand others reluctance to getting a vaccine.

@richard-imrie

I'm not a doctor, but I watch?ÿGrey's Anatomy with my wife...

If the virus is on your hands, and you touch something, I imagine that you could spread it that way. If you breath in the virus, it's my guess that the vaccine will do it's thing; killing it before it grows. But there's probably a chance that you could still exhale the virus, before it dies...

Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools available. Vaccines work with your immune system so your body will be ready to fight the virus if you are exposed. Other steps, like masks and social distancing, help reduce your chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others. Together, COVID-19 vaccination and following CDCƒ??s recommendations to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from COVID-19.

By the time I'm eligible for the vaccine many people would have already gotten it, so its effectiveness will have been well-proven and adverse side effects will have been revealed. I'm willing to do my part so we can achieve herd immunity. Seems strange to use the term since I walk on two legs.

I'm ready to go.?ÿ I don't look forward to the side effects, I've read they can be pretty significant, but still way better than risking the virus.

One of my clients was in the Pfizer trial.?ÿ He said the day after the first shot every muscle in his body ached, he had a fever and slept for 10 hours.?ÿ The next day he was fine.?ÿ He said the second shot was even worse.

In our writers group Zoom meeting tonight someone brought up the virus, and two of the seven people had had it.?ÿ One guy got it in August and mostly recovered fairly soon, but is just now getting most of his sense of smell back. That has been the longest-term effect for him and particularly bad for him because he likes to cook and drink wine.

I lost and aunt and uncle when the virus got into their nursing home.

I'll take a day of vaccine side effects.

IMHO, as soon as all Health care providers, teachers, First responders, Essential personnel working in public spaces, and the elderly or high-risk folks can get it, then sign me up. I'm happy to live in my bubble, wear a mask, wash my hands, and let many others go in front of me.

I'm ecstatic, overjoyed, and relieved that my wife who is a health care worker at the hospital and who has been in and out of countless covid positive rooms in full PPE working with patients this whole time gets her first shot tomorrow. The relief that she said she felt when she finally knew she would be able to get scheduled for her first shot was unimaginable.?ÿ Stay safe out there.

It will be a while before I'm offered it, but I will take the vaccine for the sake of others.?ÿ

I have used Covid as an incentive to get in better shape and to make better health decision in general.?ÿ Similar to my annoyance that I pay the same rate for health insurance as my coworker who is a 400lb alcoholic and smoker, I'm disgusted that so few Americans can be bothered with self improvement even when staring death in the face.?ÿ The same people who have done absolutely nothing to improve their immune system over the last year will be the ones screaming obscenities at anyone who doesn't follow the flock and get a shot.?ÿ

Covid-19 has highlighted how unhealthy we are in America and yet nobody in the public sphere seems to be pushing Americans to make healthier life decisions.?ÿ You don't have to turn into a spandex-wearing vegan to improve your immune system.?ÿ Just do something every day that gets your heart rate up for about 30min, drink more water than any other beverage, get some sun, and cut down on highly processed foods in your diet.?ÿ Tax incentives for the fit!?ÿ Reduced cost of health insurance for those who help themselves??ÿ

?ÿ

I'd like to see the local effort step up a little.?ÿ There doesn't seem to be any one in specific charge of the delivered vaccines that I have heard.

I'm thinking it's important enough roll to out the NG and set up in grocery store parking lots.?ÿ Get 'em in and get 'em a shot!

Hell, I'd volunteer in any capacity.?ÿ If nothing else traffic control.?ÿ I've got all the equipment...a vest and traffic cones.?ÿ We need to come together on this effort.?ÿ If we all just trickle in to the local Walgreens at our leisure it will take forever and a day.?ÿ

@paden-cash

Do it, they need all the help they can get.?ÿ I know my SWMBOAWD is the director of th State DOH where she's located and they're being run ragged with testing/vaccinating etc. If you feel you're good to volunteer, let them know. Traffic etc is a key component.?ÿ And carry a wupass axe handle for the trouble makers too! (I added that, and she poked me in the ribs and said thats not funny....)

@jered-mcgrath-pls That unimaginable relief your wife felt is just a testament to the service all front line health care workers have been providing for the rest of us and it should be recognized and commended. Please tell your wife some random guy from the internet thinks she has been doing a very commendable thing.

@briarcutter Out of curiosity, how much time would be needed to do the proper research?
