Credit unions don't have customers. They have owners, who are also the depositors and borrowers.

Well I guess that I'm just plain lucky or something. My bank, Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank offers virtually free service and even will reimburse ATM charges by other banks of even private machines. My statement shows the $2-$3 charge and then a reimbursement.

Great local bank with awesome service. Pledged to remain local and private.

My time is worth $150 an hour at current rates, but the issue is money disappearing without cause from my checking account. You always want to see where the money is going in case someone is helping themselves.

What happens if you deposit more than five cents in that bank? Will FDIC cover it?

I used Well Fargo back in the 90's during my student days. Money was tight, real tight. Any miscalculation in my balance would lead to overdraft penalties that often far exceeded the amount of the transaction. I grew so weary of their nickel and diming me on fees I could hardly afford that I moved to a credit union and have never looked back. When I needed a construction loan to get a well drilled so I could have running water on my property, Wells Fargo wanted nothing to do with me and the credit union stepped up to the plate with the loan. All of those student loans, car loans, construction loans have been payed off and Well Fargo can kiss my Alaska white a$$.

Banks are actually far more flexible than they want you to believe, you just have to have a very good relationship with a branch manager. Most have the authority to waive almost any "bank policy" there is. Being married to one is probably best, but there are other ways...

Thread hijack - West Virginia Board

The duty of processing checks and posting payments would amount to a few minutes a day for a (likely) existing employee. While trivial time adds up, $3 to $6 to handle a check is a decent return. I would rather see the Board Secretary make the money than give it to 'Bank X'. Unless of course I owned 'Bank X'...
Out of curiosity, what town are you in that a routine check deposit requires security? Not being a smart alec, genuinely curious...

Practically every government agency that I know of (City Tres, County Tres, Univ finance, etc.) is accompanied to the bank by an escort.

> How much is your time worth?

About $0.25 a minute.

Speaking of quarters, years ago I used to stop at McDonald for a breakfast sandwich every morning. Just the sandwich, no drink, no taters, and the H/C kid with apparent autism rang it up so the price was always the same for months. Then one morning a new store manager was standing over his shoulder and telling him he was doing it wrong and suddenly the price was a quarter more. A few days later he no longer worked there. The next day I no longer stopped there. If I could get every person I see to give me a quarter every day I could retire pretty quick.
