Is anyone successfully using an alternative to Quickbooks. I'm currently using the Quickbooks Premier 2020, the last subscription free desktop version. Not a real fan but I have not found an alternative.

I also use QB. Not the best, but it does work for what we have to do. Just like Autocad, built for every type of cadd work, QB is built for every type of business accounting. I have looked at different ones but they are way out of the price range for a small firm like ours... $10,000+.
There are some free or very low cost online options, but they all have limitations. I briefly tried Wave a few years ago, but didn't care for it much.
When I started up in 1993 I bought Peachtree Complete Accounting, mostly because that's what my former employer used. It worked well for me, and I occasionally upgraded when OS updates made that necessary.
The last version of Peachtree that I bought was v2010, but when I switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 the software wouldn't retain its authorization code. I had to enter it every time I launched the software, which was a big nuisance. I looked into upgrading Peachtree, but found that the company had been acquired by Sage, which had rebranded the product and switched to a pricey subscription model. So I dug into the auth code matter a little more deeply, and figured out a registry entry that made the code persist. I'm using the same trick now with Windows 11, and Peachtree v2010 is still humming along nicely.
The low-end Sage product is $595 per year. That's probably more than the equivalent QB version (I haven't delved into the details), so it may not be an attractive option. But if Peachtree 2010 were to fail on me now, I'd probably bite the bullet and switch to Sage in order to retain a familiar interface.
We used Quickbooks for the Service industry and it worked well.
I saw the expense for Quickbooks to manage the finances of the business equal to the cost of surveying software and equipment.
I use MyInvoices & Estimates for $30. It's on Amazon or whatever. Office Depot.
I used QuickBooks Accountant for like 15 years and all I did with it was invoices and estimates.
Then my machine got hacked and replacing Quickbooks was like $450. I switched.
I really recommend at least trying it out.
