?ÿ

Just curious how many Surveying firm offices keep their front doors locked during business hours. We do, our front doors are glass so the receptionist can see whomever prior to unlocking and also discourage solicitors and others.

Receptionist has this to place in entry area.?ÿ ??ÿ

We keep ours unlocked, do you keep a key in the lock? Could be a fire code violation, locking the door, with people inside the office.?ÿ

push bar on the inside is fire safe... dead bolt is not. key in the lock does not cut it for me... in emergencies Instant Exit counts.

Back to the Original question: Yes, doors always locked, always.
We are not a drop in retail business. It all depends on your market and your prospective clients.

Office in my home. Not much of a problem. I do not encourage clients to come to my home. Will meet them at their place or some other public meeting spot. Occasionally someone will show up unannounced, but not often.

?ÿ

I once had an older gentleman Who was involved in a dispute with his neighbor. He would not call me on the phone, but would show up in my driveway and just sit in his car until I came out. One Saturday morning I was enjoying my coffee in my bathrobe and he showed up. I went out to his car in my bathrobe holding my coffee mug. He quit showing up!

Last guy out locks up, otherwise it's open to the public.

Places I worked had doors that locked automatic on closing to entry from outside. Insiders could always get out.

My home office, front door is always locked and hardly ever used.

Everyone knows to come to back door, mostly unlocked.

funny you ask, we too have our doors unlocked from around 6 am to about 4 pm. Google had screwed up their maps a bit and people that wanted to go to the doctors office down the street were pointed to our building by mistake. They kept parking in our lot and coming into the building, regardless of the address on the front door. We have two floors and every once in a while I would go down to see someone wondering around looking for the doctor! Now we lock the doors after 4 and when there are only a couple of people in the building. Best part is when you tell someone they can't park in our lot and they get annoyed since "they are just going to see the doctor"

Our door is unlocked most of the time I am here. When we moved downstairs to a smaller office we had to do away with the conference table and chairs. Only chairs are mine and my partners. If clients visit, and they do, we stand and talk quickly.?ÿ

There wasn't ever foot traffic out front until a pot store opened on the other side of the tavern next door. Now it is a steady flow of people of all ages coming and going. Thankfully they don't drop in.?ÿ

When we built this house we had a 2 bay addition added onto the side of the 2 garage bays. So we have 2 garage spots for parking our car and truck and then a 12x24 office and then a 12x24 shop.

We have to walk through the garage to get to the office.

Fortunately we do not get many visitors because on slow days I can be very casual.?ÿ I generally keep the door locked unless I know someone is coming over.?ÿ?ÿ

that reminds me that my office was next to a beauty salon... owner's hours were sketchy at best.?ÿ so people would show up to her locked doors then wander into my typical looking survey office and ask "is this the salon"???ÿ ?ÿI always wanted to say?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿYes, sit down, I'll get my scissors and pull out a machete!?ÿ
