The OZ dollar is now worth more than the US dollar!
Just under two years ago, when last in USA, the OZ dollar purchased 65 US cents.
Seems like a combo of a robust OZ economy and a tardy US economy.

Have a good friend here who's family is leaving there for this very reason. They are moving to Costa Rica...

Government insisted on bank regulation that has found OZ as one of the countries to ride the financial collapse as the control prevented investing in those shonky mortgages that caused other countries to lose their country's citizens entire savings.
The normal worker gets 4 weeks annual leave , superannuation, retirement benefits , free health cover if under a certain income or retired with few assets. Working woman from January will get 16 weeks paid maternity leave.
Holidays in US now cheaper.
China purchasing iron , coal and gas.

Not headed your way but my wife and I are headed to New Zealand (South Island) in March. Right now the exchange there is a little better than that.

Any information anyone has on the South Island would be welcomed. I have a friend who lives near Oamaru and will be hanging out with him for a few days. We have a timeshare we have reserved at Lake Wanaka. The one thing we are having a hard time finding information on are local races. We both run and are looking for a race or two while we are there. Anything up to 1/2 marathon, road/trails doesn't matter.
