How many of you have a magnetic sign with your company info mounted on your work trucks? And did you notice an increase in business using it?

Nope.

Jackrabbits and coyotes can't read, and even if they could, they don't have any money, or a reason to have a survey done for that matter.

I have magnetic signs that have my company name, states I'm licensed, phone number & web address.

I use them whenever I'm on a project in a high traffic area, traveling, etc.

No signs for me. I don't want to give anyone clues as to what might be inside the boxes.

Not me, but your take on it is a useful insight.

Yes, I have them on mine.
No, I have not noticed a marked increase in phone traffic.

It helps to have them on when you are away from the property you are surveying a bit (in the street r/w or whatever). People can usually surmise that you are surveying in the area and most then don't ask too many questions.
I have picked up one job from it, and to be honest... I wish I hadn't because it's about one of the worst projects that I've ever tried to solve.

I like the idea of the magnetics over painted/screenprinted right on the vehicle too. I can take them off over the weekend, when I travel or when it freezes.

Someone mentioned about work vehicles being required to have signage on them. I don't think Virginia does, but I don't know about your state.

I'm with Carl. Our company uses them when on property surveys. The neighboors don't know ther is a survey going on; no one is at home or its a field or timber stand. It keeps landowners from getting "worked up" when there is an empty truck on their property and no one around the truck. I see it as letting people know what we are doing rather than advertising.

I have two. I only use them when I'm out in BFE so nobody will shoot me. I've also had a couple PE clients who wanted my to use their mag signs on my truck so their client wouldn't think they were outsourcing.

But for 99.9% of the time, they stay conviently tucked away, especially at my home. Much for the reasons Mr Frame states. If somebody sees me working, they can approach me and talk. I get more work that way than any sign will provide.

One thing that may be important in some states is the requirement that you have the company name, phone, etc boldly displayed on your vehicle to validate our right to trespass. That was a topic a couple weeks ago.

I always thought that magnetic signs are kind of cheesy looking. I had a sign maker take care of my signage with vinyl lettering... Just your usual professional type of job..

It's not the greatest picture, but I think my signage does the job.

Yes I usually do have a sign on my vehicle. Just not right at the moment.

I don't use magnets, I use vinyl. I bought a vinyl cutting machine and make my own signs. A lot cheaper in the long run. Can get set up for about a grand.

I have always used signs so I can't say if they help or not. I know people tend to remember you and your vehicle with the signs on it. Everybody wants to know what it says on a vehicle as it passes by.

I know I always read the signs on vehicles anyway.

Great sign Carl and I think it is professional looking. Perhaps its the oval shape vs the typical rectangle.

Or maybe it's the maize truck and blue sign that remind me of the Michigan Wolverines.... 😛

Another benefit of mag signs is the ability to remove them. How many times are you in the "company truck" after normal working hours and perhaps would like to remain annonymous. Happy hour comes to mind, or out of town travel, or awkward location you'd just as soon not be in and attracting attention to yourself. But likely that's more of a soloist issue, as opposed to a multi crew type business.

Thank you. I thought that about the shapes also.

Yuck. I see what you are saying, but I can't ever think of Michigan in a good way... I'm a Buckeye and Hokie fan.

Exactly. Those were also major points in my decision to go magnetic.

And as long as you're not a Penquins fan too.....

(actually, I more tolerate the Wolverines than support them. Go Spartans!!!)

Yes, actually I am a Pittsburgh Pens fan... if/when I follow hockey at all. The whole "pro sports" thing is something that I've not been a fan of for a while, so I'm not "all in". The business of pro sports sucks, and Daniel Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins made me hate almost everything about pro sports.

That's a nice big survey rig with plenty of space!

But, how does it handle in the snow? (This is a loaded question, since we have pretty much the same van here, and we frequently are taking my Subaru into the field...)

Advertisement Poll!>Newton

handles the snow just like a ford....like crap! my ranger is equally bad... but the van works great as a survey vehicle. I bought it 2 years ago for $1,800 and can't complain about the service it's given me.

Hijacked.still

...too funny. But then again I like the Pens about as much as Mr Roadhand likes the Wings or Mr Farsites likes the Flyers. Always with all due respect though.

Agree though, pro sports is totally out of control. Unless of course our particular team d'jour is in the Stupor Blow. Which is not the case this year.

However, this year the Stanley Cup does go through Motown. (it's in my avatar...;-) )

Hijack off.
