Haven't gotten the chance to do any surveying in California. Thanks for sharing the photo.

It would be nice if Trimble had a better measure up method in that situation. I have been unscrewing the receiver up a hundredth or so then sight over the top of the extension pole. Have to remember to screw the receiver back down.

How come my former surveyors I have worked w are working nicer sites than?ÿ me today.?ÿ?ÿ

I had to go look at a failed drainage pipe 10 feet below grade with a bunch of attorneys, soils engineer and an old CE I worked w in 1980.

Why not sight over the tribrach adapter and then add the extension length??ÿ (And maybe cut the 0.01' or so that's introduced by the tape slant at typical HIs.)

@jim-frame The Trimble Lever Arm extension is great for this reason.

@stlsurveyor

we have one of those for the base.

the other two R10 receivers are measure up to bottom of quick release. It has a bumper but they don't offer that as an option as they did on the earlier R type receivers.

I really can't understand surveyors that don't use fixed height tripods.....

Fixed height tripods aren't.

@hi-staker

I presume that you mean fixed height rods supported by a 3 legged "bipod". Here's the reason.?ÿ The rod bubble is a 20 minute bubble. The bubble on a tribrach is an 8 minute bubble. You just can't plumb a rod over a point to the same accuracy that you can a tribrach. So what you gain in vertical you lose in the horizontal.?ÿ

@mark-mayer

We use one of these for every base position: https://secure.fltgeosystems.com/tripods-bipods/seco-fixed_height-gps-antenna-tripod-sec5119-00-fly/

10 minute vial, takes all of 30 seconds to set up and plumb over the point, and there is NEVER any question as to what vertical was used for the setup.

@hi-staker

The base goes on that all day long?

I'm going with the OP set up for my base.

Measure up vs stability, stability wins every time.?ÿ?ÿ

@dave-lindell Aren't fixed height, or aren't tripods??ÿ I haven't found any significant height deviation, but it's true that they're actually quadripods.

@mark-mayer It's easy to swap in an 8- or 10- minute bubble.?ÿ That's what I've done with all my poles.
