If the rest of your view is similar to the picture, a fine scan ain't goin to get you anything special, unless you're looking to extract surface points at a one-foot spacing or less...which would be pretty overkill.

Unless there's another reason for the fine scan? I'm an SX10 fan, so would love to know what the project is...

Design topo with drainage and an existing MH with a 7' MD 1450' west and south of my position.

The idea was to not incorporate a lift station to Increase capacity for a previously emplaced and yet to be used Sani line to all the existing?ÿ hangars amd remove all septic to connect.

Lots of fun.

Oh yeah and extension of existing taxilanes with new hangars and impermeable surfaces to dump even more water into the mess. If and when it does rain.

It was to replace a previous coarse scan that had tons of vegetables and now its mostly cleared.

?ÿ

Hangars are to the left of the viewpoint and south with taxilane and drainage swales and improvements.

And it's also not the office.?ÿ ???? ????ÿ

@jitterboogie Regarding the previous coarse scan; was that potatoes, green beans, peas, tomatoes (well technically they are a fruit) celery, broccoli or maybe just auto correct for vegetation?

I work with superstitious and interesting people.

The 2014 batteries died just after the scan.....

Im ordering 4 new ones today as the newest is dated 2018.

?ÿ

Its heavy, and if you do get one get more fixed positions so you're not limited to just 3 we have...too low maybe high enough and no, that's?ÿ too friggin high

Scan was a success. Not one issue with 7' elevation and now 68million points with .0625' spacing or less out to 250 feet......

I was told Not to expect good results.?ÿ

?ÿ

These are great!

I'm not discussing that the sx10 wouldn't be a good instrument but who wants to do ful dome with this instrument?

Nice for a fa??ade or 2 but if you're serious about scanning i would suggest a proper scanner and not this combi-oven like solution.

Like others - not bashing the SX-10, but it isn't a "scanner" I fight this fight all the time. Such a waste of field time when it used as a designated scanner. A ten year old Leica C-10 will outperform the SX-10 all day long.?ÿ

Same here. It's fantastic for specific tasks, but it takes a good operator to understand when/what to scan.

It's hard enough to find crews who actually know when to switch between GNSS and TS...but crews who know when to switch between TS and scanning? Even tougher.

@stlsurveyor?ÿ Yep,?ÿ Survey a pasture with a Scanner, a Lot Survey with a network Rover, a level loop with a Robotic TS and a tree diameter with a Disto from the truck.

@rover83

I ran a level loop and the GNSS and already have a full network adjustment.

This was just a supplemental scan to get the real ground without all the veg to test out the accuracies with what we knew we had.

Resection ties out at .005 for Elev and .01 for Hz.

As a do all its a great gun for us because we're not setting steel, just doing what we can to keep surveys in house and less expensive than private contractors in long arduous and in some cases useless engagements.

?ÿ

And I wanted to try out the suspicion filled beliefs that the elevator tripod was noisy.

It wasn't but then again I wasnt collecting at 10 feet in a gale force wind either.

@stlsurveyor

Its sold as a 1" robotic total station with high def scanner capabilities.?ÿ

There are definitely some better options for both.

At 40k though, this thing covers more than what most people will ever need at a price that is hard to beat.

And trust me....im not a drinker of the yellow koolaid just have to use it because im not in charge.

?ÿ

@oldpacer

Not defending my scan, esp because this is one of 17 that I did for the remaining airport hangars and facilities not seen in the lone scanner standing in the soon to be hangars and dorms for airlife crews FOB

?ÿ

Yeah. Right tools for the job matter.?ÿ Like brush hooks sledge hammers and scanning total stations..... ?????ÿ

Autocorrect is so weird.?ÿ I wanted to report that certain data had been faxed.?ÿ It was certain the correct word was faced.?ÿ After the second change it offered me faxed as a possible word.

Perhaps there were pole beans obscuring the view.

@stlsurveyor?ÿ How is it a waste of field time when you may already be using it in the field??ÿ I think that's the beauty of the SX10.?ÿ You don't need a full scanning team and equipment to be completed separately you can just have it done while your conducting your normal surveys.?ÿ

We use ours like this all the time and its invaluable.?ÿ While I agree that it's not the best pure scanner, but that's not its purpose.?ÿ A 1 million point scan at a roadway quadrant is more than adequate for our needs.?ÿ?ÿ
