A nice fellow that goes by the name John Ransom stopped by our booth here at the LSAW Conference in Marysville, WA to tell us about 4 positions available in Oregon and Washington for Land Surveyor GS-1373-11 with the U.S. Forestry Service (under a single announcement). I went to the USAJOBS website but couldn't find it, so maybe it isn't online yet, but I've attached photos of both sides of the flyer he gave us. Looks like a great opportunity!

Outreaches wouldn't show up on usajobs.gov because there isn't officially a position available yet.?ÿ The outreach serves as a tool to for management to gauge the interest of how many people are interested in a potential position, which affects how they will advertise it in the next phase.?ÿ I think the outreaches usually start internally, and then get sent out to contacts in private industry, or other agencies, and forwarded around like a virus.?ÿ After they see how many people responded they'll determine how they will proceed, and then the "official" vacancy notice would go on the usajobs.gov website and at that point it is officially/effectively a "help wanted" ad.?ÿ So you basically apply twice for the job, although responding to the outreach isn't strictly necessary.?ÿ You can wait for it to show up on the website and then just apply at that time.?ÿ But it doesn't hurt to respond to the outreach as well.?ÿ I'm just not sure if the outreach postings originate on a public website.

There's your lesson in government bureaucracy that you never asked for.

Also take note that there can sometimes be multiple listings for the same job on usajobs.gov.?ÿ One for veterans and current government workers, which is usually a higher pay scale.?ÿ And on listing for those of us in the dreaded private sector, which much lower pay.?ÿ Apply to the wrong one and you're SOL, no questions or explanations.

Here is a current announcement for multiple locations. GS-11 on USA Jobs

https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/544594600

?ÿ

A tip for searching on USAjobs, put in the search box "1373" (no quotes) and it should bring up a selection for 1373-Land Surveyor Series.?ÿ You can just search nationwide, usually not too many to view, or further filter the search to your desired location(s).

Yeah, I did spot those but they're obviously completely different locations than the original post.?ÿ Anyway, mostly just curious how long the job opening cycle is on these federal jobs.
