Actually this week its mostly been gumboots (== wellingtons for any poms here).
Yukky sweaty rubbery things that they are, now hanging on the boot drier downstairs.

No boot dryer but always have no less than 4 pairs of boots not including the special ones for wading or extreme cold etc.

I kept my Xtratuffs, aka Alaskan Sneakers (sounds similar to your gumboots), but gave my boot dryer to someone back up there. Since I'm not a field guy and probably won't be one anymore, I guess the boots will be reserved for any of the outdoor activity clubs that I might join, but didn't think about getting all sweaty in them, so I may have to invest in a new dryer, oh well, live and learn.
Boots last a lot longer if you dry them out regularly. My boot drier is a wood stove that's pretty much stays going from November through to March. Bought my last two pairs of USA made Xtratuffs the day after I heard they were moving production to China. Five years later I can sell them on ebay for three times what I paid for them, used. I should have bought a shipping container full.?ÿ

You only need your wood stove until March???????? The last couple years in Juneau we had the heat on (not too high though) all Summer (if you can call it that), wet, windy and just plain miserable. I think my Xtratuffs are of that last USA batch too, but mine lasted more to non-use than anything, only being in the field pretty much for project walk throughs, I wore mine more for fishing and clearing the driveway in the Winter. I, for some unexplained reason (probably cost difference) opted for the non-insulated ones, but being a half size, which they don't make, I opted for the next higher size, but should have gone smaller instead, my feet would slide around inside them, even with two pairs of thick socks. My only complaint is the lack of support on the sole, unless mine were just getting worn, one of the last jobs that I walked started out as your typical SE Alaska day (wet) so I wore them. The day turned sunny and beautiful as soon as it wasn't worthwhile to go back to the vehicle and change them. By the time we walked the entire job and back, I tried to not walk on the hard pavement as much as I could, but getting too used to driving a desk took its toll one my feet that day. Don't know if the insulated offer any more support. Well that's my personal tale of woe, it's time to start the weekend, everyone enjoy, we're still unpacking little by little, just mostly got the pictures to unpack and hang.
@richard-germiller Think the reason mine last so long is I usually only wear them during breakup or when it's raining for days on end (like Juneau!). They really aren't all that great for hiking in and have next to no ankle support. Mine are all insulated. I still have a pair I bought twenty five plus years ago working deck on boats and I cut away the tops and turned them into loafers.?ÿ

Well after seven years in Eugene and 12 years in Juneau, I still have yet to develop webbed feet, now I need to develop a sun shade on the top of my head, but I think I'll just stick with hats.
