"How is this guy a cheap bastard? That is pretty much the going rate for a rodman with NO experience in this area. When times are slow, you don't need someone 40 hours per week. It is hard to find someone to only work a couple days per week. It could be a solo guy like myself (it isn't) that works in the field 2 days and the office 3 days, because every day of field work generates 2 days of office work. It is more than minimum wage and as someone else said, helps out with someone collecting unemployment (which is usually half of your normal pay)"

Really? In our office the ratio is just the oposite. 24 hours of field time has to be knocked out in the office in less than 10-12 hours. (Talking CAD time, property descriptions, coord comps, etc..) Perhaps I am getting the Green Weenie? +o(

Interesting disparity between "Registered Land Surveyor" and "Professional Land Surveyor".

My business is mostly boundary surveys and subdivisions. If it were construction, I could see how the opposite would hold true.

The problem is not that a guy is offering $9/hr for someone to help him schlep gear around part time, the problem is that somebody with 10 years experience is going to apply for the job.

> No offense taken to the cheap bastard, as I probably am one myself. Minimum wage in my area is $7.25 per hour, so I usually start people out at $8. If they have half a brain, pretty soon they are making $9. But then again, lot surveys are going for around $800 each in this area as well. I guess everything is relative to area.

That's about 4 times the rate as some people (one being a fairly regular poster on this site) are doing them for in Florida. It makes me glad I don't do small lot surveys anymore.

$9 per hour, part time, w/ no benefits, no sick time, no vacation??? I live in a low wage area, but that would be a new low.

We don't do construction. We do topos, boundaries, ALTA's, cell towers and a lot of DOT right-of-way stuff.

Trust me, I am not pulling in the cream of the crop with those wages!! That is merely a starting wage until they make themselves more valuable.

That is interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with geographic location. Around here we are professional but paid more like registered.
