Hello guys. Just wondering if any of you guys run access on a yuma 2 data collector. And if yes what do you like and dislike about it.

Thanks.

There's a small weight penalty vs. a TSC3 but everything else goes in the plus column. The screen is large and bright even in sunlight, the processor is stronger and you've got Win7 so the networking and use of other software is possible. For instance I have a Topcon Hiper SR, Access won't run it but I've got Carlson SurvPC loaded on the Yuma2 to handle the Topcon hardware.

What about workflow?

I find data collectors and the accompanying software to be a very personal and subjective choice. There are Ford people and Chevy people and never the two shall meet. As I said in another thread about Magnet software earlier, if you're not already familiar with Access you need to arrange a long demo. You'll need 2-3 weeks to really get into the depths of it and see how it works for your mix of jobs and how you like to work. I will say that I've yet to find a bug that has caused me to have bad data or have to re-shoot something.

The thing about Access is, in my experience, most of the people running it don't realize how much it can do - heck, I became a Trimble Certified Trainer in 2005 and there are still things that I learn about it. Access is incredibly powerful, and the Yuma II is able to make the most of it; as Stephen said, the screen is fantastic, and large enough that you can easily read it;; with the Yuma II you also get a split screen capability that's pretty nice.

However, as I said in another post, Trimble will probably be releasing at least one new piece of hardware in the fall. It's also now possible to purchase a stand-alone license of Access and put it on any Windows 7 or 10 tablet, but I wouldn't do that unless I knew for certain that the license was transferrable.

Regarding workflow - we're all in with Trimble, so we sync our tablets and collectors to TCC and process the files through TBC - it doesn't get much smoother than that. However, Access has a lot of pre-loaded export options, and Trimble also has a ton of custom export formats that can be downloaded from their web site. You can export just about anything you want from Access and sync it any number of ways; a lot of people seem to be using Dropbox, and I haven't heard of any major pitfalls with that.

Mostly oil and gas and utilities. Pipelines if they ever come back.

I don't recommend any purchase to the company unless we have thoroughly tested it; this was true of the Tablets as well. We borrowed one from the dealer and gave it to one of our best Party Chiefs for a couple weeks. He loved it so we bought him one; after six months he still loved it so we bought four or five more. We also recently got one with our UX5-HP, so we now have six or seven. We're fortunate enough to have a dealer who works with us on stuff like that; I evaluated the V10 for a full six months (on and off) before we finally pulled the trigger on one.
