How are things in your neck of the woods?

Here in the SE our work has picked up. A good mix or residential work, commercial ALTA work (mainly ReFis) and a little industrial work(rail and oil).

Nothing like the approach of deer season to ensure we get busy. Every year I say I am going to take a full week off and go sit in the woods. Never happens. But I am not complaining this year. I finally have a backlog again.

Snoop...when I first read that I thought it read "I am going to take a full week off and go Sh** in the woods." I was thinking wow he is really a roughing it surveyor!! Watch out for poison oak!

I must be tired... |-)

Thanks for the chuckle. hehehe 🙂

Our company is holding its own - running 3-4 crews the last year mainly from transmission route surveying-- not much title work

I am in La (not exactly the SE) and we have been rolling since Aug '09, but this 90% O&G.

For the past five years I have taken 2 weeks off during Christmas to duck hunt and spend time w/ the family. Now I am being asked not to take so much time off at once. So I will be taking 1.5 weeks off instead. :-O

Good backlog here, moving forward, no complaints.

Snoop,if you nab one this year I would like to have a sampling of the jerky, you make some pretty tasty venison jerky.

We have the first backlog that I can remember in recent history. Of course, it doesn't take much to do it when we are down to one crew opposed to three a few short years ago. wish I was able to get a couple of the guys back that I had to lay off. Everything seems to be on a short fuse...

Same story as Stacy. The last couple of weeks I've been in the unfamiliar situation of having too much to do, too little time. The only difference is I don't wish I had the people back that I laid off. Maybe some different people if the workload holds up. And, as you say everything's a big rush.

The other day, I gave a quote for a topo and eventual building stake-out. I used a real sharp pencil and this repeat client called back and said he had a quote of $200 less. I said sorry, can't do it. He called back in a few minutes and gave me the job (for old time's sake). Hmmm...

Work is picking up, in that the demand for services is increasing. Unfortunately the rate of pay is not, everyone is still expecting bargain basement pricing.

Work Load Check... Steve G

Proof of standing your ground to those who think they must wilt to the client's diatribe sob story.

You got to also say to them "hey mate you run a business and I bet if I asked for $200 off then you would be not happy or if you are happy, then obviously you have built in fat that you expect most to pay. You then follow up with "I am sorry that I do not operate that way as my price is as I submitted."

End of story!

Just negotiated 2-125k projects that will take us through till summer.

After almost going under.................what a relief.

Looking forward to see if more proposals get funded with fiscal year 2011 turning the corner.

Swamped

However, it doesn't take much to keep you swamped when your solo and only work part-time.

Greg

You going to be at DCALS tomorrow?

I'm usually in the bar an hour early or so (that way my "sponsors" know where to find me).
