Took the wife to Witness Tree Vineyard for her birthday yesterday, and totally by accident. I used Yelp on my phone to find nearby wineries and Witness Tree popped up on the top of the list, with a 5-star rating. How could we resist, especially when I already know what a witness tree is?

I think it's great that the owners of the land have respect for the bearing tree and it's history. It is also a great way to educate the public about surveying. However, I find it odd that a bearing tree is important enough to be designated a historical object...have a plaque....be tracked in a government database, have a winery named after it, ect. ect.

Seems to me it was simply a marketing ploy for their business.

Glad to hear you two are out enjoying life....

I have a bottle of 1997 Chainsaw from that vineyard. Nice to know more about the place.

Aww, thanks Brad!! He really is a wonderful man and I am freaking lucky as hell to have him!! 🙂

He forgot the photo of the wine glass! It has an instrument on it!! I also got a copy of their wine list to scan for you guys. Lots of Surveying references on it. I'll scan it soon when I am not so tired. 😐

Witness Tree Vineyard - Wine Glass Transit Pics

No it is in Oregon, WM.

My uneducated guess is that is a tag on a conifer which leads to the Witness Tree which is really a corner monument (not really a Witness Tree). This is from reading the winery's website. Others may know better than me.

The website says the tree is the corner of a Donation Land Claim with which term I am unfamiliar.

Witness Tree Vineyard - thread resurrection

The weekend before last SWMBO, myself and another couple who share our passion for great Pacific Northwest Wine ventured out to do some tastings. One of the spots we stopped at was the infamously awesome Witness Tree Vineyards as previously discussed herein. :stakeout: Hence the thread regurge. It was a nice normal rainy :rain: weekend which kept the tasting rooms sparsely populated with only the true diehards such as ourselves.:-D We enjoyed their Pinot's and bought a few bottles along with an exceptional Viognier. They have consistently produced some pretty great wines over the years.:bye:

The weather kept us from trekking up to the witness tree but a photo opp was still there.
