I aim for the stake and hit my thumb.
So I aim for my thumb figuring I will hit the stake.
But I hit my thumb again, there's no justice 🙁
that NEVER works, jeez, Dave.
So just put your thumb on top of the stake. Then it's a sure thing.

I don't know. But I do know I do NOT like those little sledges.
While pounding [attempting to anyway] stakes on a line in droughted GA clay with J.A.S. a few summers ago I not only missed the the stake but missed my thumb as well and absolutely creamed my leg just above the knee cap. I could hardly walk for about 10 minutes. If I would have hit my knee cap, I'd probably still be in physical therapy. No doubt I would have shattered it.
I hired a guy to help me set all of the corners in a 45 lot subdivision a few years ago. I was running the RTK and carrying the bag, all he had to do was pound in the rebar and set the cap where I told him. First point he put his thumb on top of the rebar and smacked it really good. Blood all over the place. I wrapped it up with toilet paper and flagging (Surveyor's Bandage) and from then on he carried the bag and would hold the rod when I got to the point. I ended up setting every point because I was paranoid about a worker's comp claim. The only time I tried hiring a helper. Everything before and since is 100% Solo.
Somewhere in this thread is the phrase, "When I nod my head, hit it."
