Been working in a subdivision where it isn't unusual for a 135 foot line to measure 125 feet.

The current problem is that that sub plat doesn't show a critical dimension for one lot line - (calc's out to be 11.00 feet)

Did a freedom of information act request for about 8 surrounding lots, but didn't get much back (mortgage surveys), based on the neighbors survey, his lot is 6 feet short (and ours is 6-7 feet long) -- Don't like the looks of that, but if you put the division line in according to dimensions, we cut into a garage by about 4 feet - don't like that either. Not much in the way of monuments.

So after pulling my hair out on this one, I sent my crew back to search for a couple more points.

One of the adjoining lots was being surveyed by another crew, and my guy offered to help them by showing them the existing found corners.

Help was declined with the comment - "We have GPS"

guess it make it all o.k.

What a dumb thing to say to another surveyor. That guy doesn't have a clue. Guess I'll go back and see what he set (if anything).

Next time someone tells you that, tell them they can get vaccinations for free at the County Health Department office to help cure that.

Several years ago

I was staking the front pins in a condo complex when a survey "crew" drove up to do a "closing survey". They were one building down and I offered to set those pins so they could finish up their work. "We ain't got time to wait on the pins", and went to work with a cloth tape to measure the building. I wonder how some people can sleep at night knowing they do that kind of work.

Maybe call the other crew's boss, and simply have a chat. Never know what you might learn.

Exactly. Write down the coordinates the little box tells you and come back in a few years, you'll be just fine! That is how it works, right?
