Okay for all you Washington licensees out there. When using a least square adjustment which accuracy standard do you certify to? -085 seems to fit LS better but is really loose while the closures in -090 are technically limited to conventional traverses.
Why could the board not have placed both methods under the same sections.
I have never seen a certification to .090 outside of high end cadastral work (think ngs, or wsdot in setting up project networks).
i fought this updated language, to no avail. In the conversations with DNR folks, it became somewhat clear that the intent was the language needed to be shown, if you utilized software programs that provided the accuracy data. I questioned how to address this when you have varying methodologies across a project site, and it became quite clear that there was absence of master level knowledge when it comes to the mathematics involved.
"The following standards may be applied to boundary surveys utilizing field traverses and shall be applied when positioning techniques used in a land boundary survey are not amenable to analysis with standards in WAC 332-130-090."
The answer about when to use one or the other is self-contained. What isn't answered is what standard to use if GPS is employed. Unless you consider locating boundary using GPS as being a "field traverse".

Because -085 is basically an exception to -090. In practice, -085 was added to bring sanity and honesty to accuracy statements.

Stop trying to make sense.
