Yes, had one that was particularly prone to it.

Seems as though (it's been a few years) we sent it to the shop and they told us there was a thermal 'somethin' that caused it. When it would cool down, it worked fine. An identical unit never had that problem.

We just had to figger who was going to be the hottest that day and send them with the 'good' one. It was a real pain in the keester. Good luck.

ps - maybe it's a sign to get in the shade. it's officially 110 here (and climbing).

Yes. most of the time, the overheating is caused by the sun. Leaving one in direct sunlight for hours on end will overheat it. if you can keep it out of direct sunlight, they will work on some really hot days.

Cold weather will also shut one down. The cold drains the battery really fast. We had this problem at an outfit I worked for in Georgia. I ordered the biggest box of hand warmers i could get. We taped the warmers onto the back of the battery, and all of the collectors would make it through the day.

Had the same problemn, but it got worse over the next few days, until it would not even boot up again. The hotter it was, the more often it happened.

Sent it in to the agents, came back with no found problemns, they said the operating system got corrupted and had to reload all the firmware and software.

It has worked fine since then.

Sure did. Didn't have to get too hot either.

A Leica Scan Station C10 will quit working pretty consistently at 3pm on hot days (highs of 105 plus).

Is it completely shutting down or is the screen just going black?

We generally see two separate problems regarding heat. It boils down to the screen is bad or the main CPU board is bad.

Too bad there's no air conditioning out there.
