I hope everyone realizes that some or all of the wireless carriers in the USA will soon (2017?) be eliminating 2G service. You'll need a 3G or better device after that.

Pretty much any cell phone that can create and share a wifi network will work. We regularly use android and windows cell phones with TSC2 data collectors. We occasionally run across a cell phone that's wifi network doesn't work, I'm not sure why, but most phones do work for us.

Prefer a dedicated WiFi. Don't get an iphone we've never been able to get that to work with a TSC2. You need a device that you have control over the security settings with; the TSC2 is old and doesn't support most of the security currently in use.

I did get our TSC2's to work with security on a mifi, but could not using a cellphone (android) as a hotspot, so I have to use open (i.e. no security) on the phone. Not really a problem, i don't care if anybody can intercept the data. But, I restrict the phone to only accept the MAC address of the TSC2. Otherwise anyone nearby can use the connection.

Our MiFi Liberates allow us to dumb down the security to a level that the TSC2 will work with, so we at least have password protection.
