Get a 10m tape??ÿ (kidding).

The EDM probably uses time-of-flight to calculate distances; if not, then phase comparison. If your equipment allows it, check into refreshing/updating the firmware/software. A glitch may not allow it to "count" past the time for 40m. alternatively the routine that compares the longer wavelengths may be glitchy.

If the update doesn't work, check with your service provider for a check-up.

P.S. Side note: Under 30m careful taping tends to be slightly more accurate than an EDM and target on a rod, particularly over level ground.

In all my years around total stations I have never heard of such a problem.?ÿ I would be headed to the surveying equipment sales and fix-it shop.

I would guess your EDM board is going out.?ÿ You could try a different prism or re-flashing the firmware.?ÿ Nate mentioned the EDM alignment, but I'm not sure many modern instruments even have that as an option at the user level.?ÿ I would say it is time for trip to the service center.

Have had the Leica EDM board fail.

Just got an older S6 back from service. They replaced some filter thing in it. It still worked but shop said it was on its way to failure soon. It is my backwoods traversing machine. The older instruments find the prism easier but they also tend to chase random reflectors more which isnƒ??t an issue in the backwoods.

Guys thanks! Repair shop it is..I personally think its more of a hardware(EDM board failure ) rather than a software(Firmware glitch ) issue. Appreciate every contribution.
