@on_point

If you mean the multi track mt1000 prism (not sure if you mean something different by tracker), I haven't had issues with it's accuracy. I do often use a full tripod and round prism as a backsight for long shots when I'm worried about accuracy...or if I really want the extra accuracy but I have never seen more than a few millimeters difference when I tested it.

If I don't use it I have to make sure and tape everything I do because the Trimble robot will lock onto anything in passive mode.

@350rocketmike multi-track sounds right. Seemed like I could only expect ~0.05’ accuracy with it.

Yeah, I always thought the Trimble robots were bad about locking on anything reflective on the site. If there was a lot of site traffic it was nice to have somebody stand at the robot to turn it back if need be.

I occasionally work with another crew chief (usually doing final srpr's "as builts")...and I run the s5 manually. He only uses the multi track when he's solo because it's heavier and more fragile. I'm frequently turning off auto lock just to get it off his vest. It will actually shoot these random things too. The Leica would occasionally get caught on something reflecting the sun...but it won't shoot it and that's when I realize something's wrong.

If I had to work around other total stations the active prism would be a nice feature, but that's never the case for me so it really just seems like a band aid for the fact that it locks onto anything in passive mode.

Anyway, sorry we've gotten off topic. The op was asking about topcon and I thought I should give my impressions comparing the gt-503 and magnet to all the other ones I've used. My opinion of the gt went way up after using the s series.

I just want to say thanks to everyone for sharing all this useful information! I know it's pretty standard for this forum but still... very much appreciated!

One thing I wish was different on Topcon magnet, is the ability to export point number ranges. Maybe there is a way though and I just haven’t found it yet.

Import/export

Use filters

Date/time - Point range - point type - coding - layer - symbol

@beuckie cool, thanks. I’ll have to give that a try. That would be much less time consuming than exporting all the points, then opening the excel file and deleting the ones I don’t need. Also, is there a way to turn off the DC wanting to assign layers to point descriptions?

@keithscadservices

When I was looking up info on Leica total stations, I found a PDF that listed all the model numbers, their manufacture dates, and various specs/features.

Do you have a link to that PDF or can you post it?
