Hey Guys,

We use Topcon Hiper V Gps's at the place I work and the way that they charge them is by using the red 7 pin fisher connector that is on the bottom of the unit. It works to charge fine but it seems like the unit is on and running the entire time of the charge and that seems odd to me.

These are pretty new units with internal batteries.

I am concerned about having them charging overnight or over a weekend, seems like it would place a lot of extra time on the the electronics. They are pretty warm to the touch when I unplug them the next morning after they are plugged in overnight.

?ÿ

Thanks

Sounds like you have Hiper VR units. Yes, these will always turn on when the charging cable is immediately plugged in. I suggest after plug in, you wait until the power light is solid green. Then power off the receiver and leave on charge. I know it seems like a PITA, just not sure why.

I recall an explanation of that "power on" when connected to the charger was that if the unit was deployed as a reference station, it would come on automatically after a power outage.?ÿ I thought it strange to inconvenience 99.9999999% of your users to accommodate an exceedingly rare deployment of that type of receiver.?ÿ Topcon took that feature out of the firmware at one point, but a recent release restored that mark of insanity.

The latest firmware solves this problem, at least in the Hiper VR.
