Is this set up really that slow? I've been using the Real Time Roading program and it is painfully slow to say the least, compared to Trimble, Carlson and TDS by far.

First off, it stores two points per shot. The first point that it stores has the same coordinates as the second point, only with the design elevation. It stores the actual point that I want as pt#_stk. I can see this as being useful once in a great while, but not for every frickin' shot that I take.

Secondly, after I store the desired shot, up pops up about 4 or 5 different tabs and it always defaults to the raw data tab. Not something that I want to be looking at for every topo shot. Can you customize it to default to the code tab or am I stuck with this?

It would also be nice for it to keep the code of the last shot instead of sticking the point number in the data field for every shot.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any tips? I would like to see if I could speed up the process because it is painfully s l o w.

Any tips?

Don't run Topcon, but have been beaten by not configuring the "import ASCII file" portion of Carlson to accept the "pt#_stk" alpha-numeric format. That's all I have.

You can change the defaults for how topsurv names staked points: Configure, Survey, select your instrument then tap on the ... out to the side, then select edit at the bottom of the screen, tap next to move between screens until you get to one that says "config: stake parms 2" at the top, then change the point and note settings to your way of doing things.

I remember trying to run x-sections with real time roading. Every shot I took from the station/offset routine stored the design elevation instead of the field elevation. Had to first set stakes for line and then switch to topo to get shots. This was three years ago. Dont know what version. Good Luck

Thanks for the tip Stephen. I'll try that and see how it works.

Yes, one of our FC200s got upgraded to 8 against our will and it is a lot more busy and SLOOOW than the older version. It seems like they added buttons and check boxes just for more to do to get the same thing.
