This is some additional work on the section from a few months back - here's the thread. [msg=240729]center of township....[/msg]

anyway, last winter we breifly looked for the S1/4 of the section - I'd turned a few stones out of the ground and figured I'd look harder when we revisited - so today was that day. I had original corners at the SE and SW section corners that matched GLO within 5 feet, I plugged in my numbers aand headed out. It took me right back to where I'd been in January.

here's the GLO

.
.

I staked out the position- looked down- ( well I wasn't standing on it) then scanned thru the area...

.
.
.
.
HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT LAST JAN!?!o.O
.
.
.

.
.
.
this is how it fit back in the hole... the right end of the stone in the pic is the north side- and you could see where I'd scraped it up looking last time-

.
.

I have to say- all the stones I've found in the section are beautifully marked as described and have dimensions very consistent with the GLO descriptions.
-
so I had a stone- that was stuck in the ground on it's side, on line, but about 12' east of where I was expectiong to find it. I found old wire and staples along this line, indicating there had been a fence thru there at one time, but now it's 90 feet to the south....
I accepted it's position and set an AC and buried the stone inverted and on the n side of my mon.

.
.
.

.
.
.

.
.
.
.
on the way out there were a couple of nice bull elk in the field heading like they were going to cross the road, so I stopped for a bit to watch. They're looking pretty good- horns coming out in velvet. They started running parallel to the hwy when they got closer.

.
.
.

.
.
.pretty tough duty.... 🙂

Where did the county road go to?

Everybody knows that section corners always fall near the middle of a county road and normally are covered with a foot or two of dirt, rock, asphalt.

Where did the county road go to?

the county road circa 1911- turned north just east of the section corner to the east.
you can see it on google earth pretty faint- but it's well defined on the ground. looks like it took out a lot of corners.... N47^49'07.59 W114^32'23.24

HC's county rd....

Where did the county road go to?

Thanks. That was cool. Silly road builders must of had a beer or two too many to miss the section corner like that.
