Today was when the call came in.?ÿ Former client calls to have me do a survey for another lot.?ÿ As he put it:?ÿ It should be real easy because it's just across the alley from my house but one lot to the north.
You know he thinks I'll do it for half price or something.
There is a bit of problem, though.?ÿ Across the alley is an entirely different subdivision with different lot sizes and dimensions.?ÿ The survey we did on his house in 2017 is completely tied to other surveys in the subdivision it is in.?ÿ We had no reason to go looking across the alley or anywhere within the subdivision for today's tract.?ÿ The subdivisions were created about 20 years apart.
I understand exactly why he is assuming it will be a simple job.?ÿ Fortunately, he listened while I explained why it was a whole new can of worms.?ÿ Told me to do it anyway.?ÿ The good news is he is one of those guys who pays immediately.
Reminds me of the builder that was upset with my bill after I staked 8 new subdivision lots in a row for him.?ÿ With windshield time I think I billed him my minimum of 4 hours.
The next time he called he wanted the lots across the street staked...and specified Lots 2, 4 and 6 only.
sigh...some people's kids....?ÿ
Same price to do all or half, no matter which half.?ÿ Just like the calls to only do one line when we all know the difference is five minutes more in the field and 10 seconds, or less, additional drafting time to do all four sides of the city lot (standard case).?ÿ Then there are the ones who think they can save a bunch on the cost if they give you monuments they want set, which may or may not comply with your minimum standards requirements.
"I have already found one of the corners, that's all you need to do the other 3, right?"
thats a good one, had contractor try to pull that on me one time
Staking a property yesterday and the neighbor of course comes out and ask "Wassup?".?ÿ Told him I was staking the property south of his.?ÿ ?ÿHe was intrigued and then asked "Great, can you show me my corners?".?ÿ I replied "You want me to do a survey on your property?"?ÿ ?ÿHe stared at me then replied, "No... just show me what you found".?ÿ ?ÿI looked at him, "LOL, Sorry... I need to do a survey!".?ÿ ?ÿHe walked away.
Ya git wut ya pay fer, Buddy.
The guy that called me yesterday only wanted the west, north, and east sides of a commercial property (the south side was Interstate 5). He even said he didn't need a real survey; if I could just paint the lines on the ground, for his fencing crew, that would be good enough.
It was hard to keep from laughing...
....didnt need a real survey...
?ÿ
So why did you call a surveyor?
?ÿ
Was this an attorney calling???????ÿ 😉
Was this an attorney calling?
A contractor, back east somewhere; and he wanted it done next week
LOL
