Does not really matter where North is, other than a general direction as long as you can get onto the base your predecessor used. Even assumed North is fine if the evidence found allows you find that base within reason. What is on the ground is a much better way to locate what your predecessor used when you retrace his work than using one of several recognized Norths that we puff up with self pride while displaying our vast understanding of the multiple Norths we can name.

That explains alot, those

guys hardly ever ask an expert to do that for them and trying to explain it to them gets around to a form of discussion right out of Abbot and Costello script such as "who is on first".
