i did some googling for work boots. Now every place I go serves up ads for some online boot seller that doesn't carry my size. They have lots of great choices up to 13 medium. I admit after some searching I found one pair in 14 medium, I swim in those danged things.

Red Wing offers several choices in 14B, all with slick soles, what the heck?

Apparently wide and medium from 7 to 13 is widely available. Must be nice.

My partner would just go get the latest pair of Irish Setters, no problem, easy. Wish I had standard issue feet.

I found this website...midwestboots dot com which has a pretty good selection.

so far it looks like if I want Vibram soles I'd have to go with a logger boot which I'd rather not.

they do have some affordable boots but the soles don't look very aggressive. Climbing 50%+ slopes in flat bottom soles is a real bear. Vibram make that task a lot more doable.

I think when you have x-country skis for feet, affordable and quality are pretty much mutually exclusive.?ÿ Doing a quick search for custom work boots, all the most promising sites are from WA and OR with most of the boots being some variation of logger or smokejumper boot, near or over $500 per pair.

But then, I've known several surveyors who have owned White's and they all really liked them.

I hope they liked them, their steel toes are $561 on their web site.

I worked with a old timer who loved his Whites.

They can be rebuilt, so maybe in the long run, they maybe a good investment.

Not sure exactly what style of boot you are looking for, but here are some options to check out:

https://www.lowaboots.com/mens/backpacking-hunting/tibet-gtx%C2%AE?color=Sepia/Black

These are offered in narrow width:

http://www.kenetrek.com/KENETREK-HARDSCRABBLE-HIKER/productinfo/KE-420-HK/

As are these:

http://www.kenetrek.com/KENETREK-MOUNTAIN-EXTREME-NON-INS/productinfo/KE-420-NI/

These are available in 14B:

http://www.danner.com/men/hunt/sierra-8-brown-200g.html

I purchased a pair of these from this distributor and they were great to work with to ensure a correct fit:

https://lathropandsons.com/alaska-gtx-hanwag-boots.html

I own all of the above and they are all excellent boots.

Check out the hawthorn boots by white's. They are a bit of a less rugged option and maybe a $150 less than the same model of White's. I have a pair of White's for work and a pair of hawthorn packers which I don't wear to work, both are good quality. One of the guys got a hawthorn to work in, steel toes, logger style. You can get the heel made low with a lug sole and any size you want. They will rebuild them and I'm getting to that point after 12 years with my pair, maybe by the end of next season.

I like them cause they are leather against the sock, no liner, no "water proof" membrane.

I'm pretty sure you can order a set in 14B, but it may be difficult on the internet, probably need to call the home base for that. Or find a local store that deals with them.

It takes a ten-dollar shoe to fit my feet
It takes a ten-dollar shoe to fit my feet
It takes a ten-dollar shoe to fit my feet, Lord, Lord
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way

Your a-two-dollar shoe hurts my feet
Your two-dollar shoe hurts my feet
Yes, your two-dollar shoe hurts my feet, Lord, Lord
An' I ain't a-gonna be treated this way

I'm a-goin' down this old dusty road
