It's not as bulky or as heavy as it looks. Go to this page and rotate it around.
There are some nice features... I like the concept of the robotic radio being a module that can just stay with the SX10; whatever crew needs to use it won't need the "special" data collector. Hot swappable batteries are a plus, and with Windows 10 and a good processor it should be able to run a lot of useful programs in addition to Access.
I think this should come with that size collector...

Haters are gonna hate. A lot of the development of this thing went into making it ergonomically friendly. You can't have a 7" screen without making it... 7".
I tease only because I love Trimble products.?ÿ ?ÿ

hehe, no more bi-pod!!!!!!
Lee, all kidding aside, I'm sure they put a lot of effort into it, but it looks huge. I do like the alpha-numeric keyboards on the 2 and 3, I try and use they as much as possible to keep the screens from wearing out, so I want them, but that screen is too large, I was hoping the next gen would get smaller, slimmer, lighter.
Honestly, even though I can import maps into my DC, I find myself navigating using my cell phone with topos and photos I have on it instead of the DC, that I use more as a pointer.

That looks like an accessory for the urban series of Robo Surveyor.
Because this is a Trimble product, a fair question is going to be "what is locked out of using it?"?ÿ Will it still work with an S6, will it work with a 5600 or a Geo600 (dreaming I know), as I still have some of them??ÿ
The menu switching speed in the vid makes me giddy and as much as I don't like the size, the screen makes it worth it
?ÿ
Edit:?ÿ I was just told that it will run an S6 and a 5600(2.4)
I also heard it will run the S6!
Will be a great combination with the SX10 for the usual Topo surveys.
Currently the SX10 only works with the tablets so that limits it's use to mostly scanning and minimal topo's with heavy coding.
Anyone already foound some in depth info on the special Access-2018 version??ÿ

The photo on the web site indicates that Access 2018 is going to look a bit different. Mo I get that it's a big screen, but it's going to be nice with the SX10 (or any visual instrument). They're introducing capabilities that are way beyond that of the average "button pusher"; it will be interesting to see what the field crews think of it. I haven't actually had my hands on one yet, I only know what I've been able to get from the internet and our dealer reps.
I don't have a laptop right now, just an office PC and phone.?ÿ I can get along without one but at times would be handy.?ÿ The TSC7 would probably fill in.?ÿ You can hook up to a mouse or keyboard even a monitor.?ÿ I like Win 10 Pro. Hopefully you could run any win app on it.?ÿ Hopefully Facebook won't work at all on that thing.
I would be leary of that screen getting broken in some of the back country/mountains I go into.?ÿ Needs some sort of cover you can use when needed.?ÿ Can you make phone calls with it (that is if you are over 50 and still use voice for communication)?
?ÿ
I'll probably go to it when the TSC3 breaks down.
Just returned from the Arkansas Conference. The Trimble Dealer at the vendor showcase had one. It's huge. It's heavy. It is noticeably heavier than the TSC3, which they had side by side. Keypad is the same as TSC3, and you think sun glare is bad on the TSC3...Just wait for the 8" mirror. If you run the SX10 I could see the benefit. But strictly running a robot? No reason and no thanks. And I would never use this for backwoods boundary work. This is another example of right tool for the right application. As technology changes and surveyors broaden the services lines its hard to find an instrument that can do it all....
Trimble why do you not promote these fine instruments more??ÿ

I thought the one man band was invented in Arkansas?
When I first saw it I thought it looked ridiculous, but I imagine once you start using it you would never go back. I would say there are alot of people this will be very useful for.
As long as they continue to supply both the traditional type data collector and this new one then why not.
Looks like there is a new Win 10 version of Access.?ÿ Appears to be a lot more graphical thus the need for a larger screen.?ÿ Dealer contacted me because if I keep my current version of Access on support I will be able to transfer to another device.?ÿ I don't think Trimble has allowed transfer of Access to another device in the past.
?ÿ
But dragging that thing through the brush may be problematic.?ÿ Need some sort of chest holster to protect it, take it off the pole.
Anyone else surprised they haven't provided buttons to back up the softkey functions on screen?
One handed it was a hard enough stretch on the TSC3 to the screen and I've got pretty big hands. This is going to be a two handed/stylus device. I have the data logger in hand over 50% of the time for various reasons. Not made for me unfortunately.
About 50% of my work is in dense forest, and I don't think this will be any worse than the current TSC3.?ÿ I like the bigger screen.
My dream format for a dc would be a 7" screen turned portrait with a physical keyboard along the bottom (like a big Blackberry).
Then I'd mount it right up under the rover head like a Javad unit, because I'd also have it paired with these:
for basic instructions.?ÿ Buy I'd rather they look more like standard wrap-around safety glasses (not into the surveyor-hipster look).
If the app was made in Android you'd be able to use Google voice recognition out of the box, assuming you have internet connection.?ÿ Google's voice processing is so good because it actually happens in the cloud, not on your device.?ÿ But if the basic commands are voice-trainable they can be stored to the device.
