I don't work much with RTK data, but I currently have a project in which I need to do so. Add in the fact that I'm just getting my feet wet with TBC, and I'm in need of some assistance.

Here's the scenario: I have a bunch of RTK vectors from a couple of occupations of a known control point. Both occupations shows different positional values for the point. In TBC, how do I "move" the RTK vectors (and their associated rover points) onto the known values of the base point?

Thanks!

If it's just one point, site calibration with one point.

If it's multiple points, then site calibration to the points, but as you well know, make sure you've surrounded the project and that your plane doesn't tilt.

It's under survey, and it feels like how you would do it in TGO

Under the point menu use the merge points routine. There's a good explanation in the help file.

As DWolfe said, "merge points" is the way to go. It is under your points menu. "Grab" the points you want to merge, then in the pop up menu, under include, make sure they are checked and the one you want to hold is highlighted.

Here's the procedure I've been experimenting with:

1. Merge the base station points.
2. Create Office Entered coordinates for the base station points.
3. Fix the known values of the Office Entered coordinates.
4. Recompute.

That seems to be moving the RTK shots the way I expect (and want) them to move. Am I overlooking anything?

Another question that has arisen: I'd like to rename the RTK points. However, when I do that in the Properties box, the RTK vector disappears, leaving only the renamed point. That's behavior I neither expect nor want. Why is that happening, and how can I rename the point without altering the vector or point coordinates?

Thanks.

Jim,

Not sure why you're having the problem but here's what I'd try: Enter your base station coords and the point name that you want with "control" quality. Import your RTK vectors and merge your base (from the RTK shots) with the control quality point you've previously entered.

Doug

I just re-read your post and see that your talking about the resultant RTK positions and not the base position. Hmmm, I'll try renaming some of my RTK positions in TBC and see what happens.

Jim,

I tried renaming RTK positions in TBC and it worked without a hitch with no loss of vector/baseline info. Is your RTK data coming from a data collector job file? Is it possible to edit the point numbers before you import?

I'd be happy to give it a run if you wanted to send some of your data.

Doug

that method should work fine...

Or...you could input the base station coordinates into TBC...assign them Control Quality.

Import your RTK data... if all of your base station points are named exactly the same as your office entered point, it will use the coordinates of the office entered point and compute all your vectors.

As for the vectors disapearing when you rename a point...that is not normal.

Agreed. But is it the Trimble way?

No, not normal.

I can't believe that something SO SIMPLE, can be SO COMPLICATED!

Welcome to OVER-integrated software at it's finest (or is it worst?).
