I am attempting to get more information on a survey with field notes in Marion County, Florida.
Does anyone have an office to contact for that information?
Thank you.

Thanks Andy,
Have not found what I am looking for, but working on it.
Keith
Wish I could offer some assistance but I don't know any surveyors in Marion County. Last I knew their survey department was attempting to provide information online but I think it's still under construction. Google this (marion county florida survey dept) then yer on yer own!
Have a great week! B-)
If you are talking about a BLM survey, try Labins.org, as Andy suggested. If you are talking about the work of a local surveyor, we don't record boundary surveys in Florida, and it's all pretty much kept private between the surveyor/client.
Yes, am finding out that you don't record private surveys!
Looking for the sec. subd. survey by Whit Holley Britt, in T 14 S., R. 24 E., Marion County.
I know at one time I had some field notes, but can't find them now. (or maybe I am losing it)
OK TPR, don't say it.
Keith
The Gov't notes are online are LABINS.
Just a thought, maybe the survey that I am looking for is a survey by a Forest Service employee (I think) and maybe the FS would have that survey?
What's the skinny??? You surveying clear across the country with a trig level?
I hope you have better luck than I did. Field Book 118 page 53
No, just with my Gurley solar transit and my 8 chainer.

I contacted Moorhead Engineering several years ago hoping to get some information (not related to anything discussed here), the reply I got was basically "We don't share information with other surveyors". Did you get the same response?
I received no response and didn't pursue it. My interest in this is only out of curiosity. But I would sure like to see that book!
linebender and TPR,
I have just sent an email to them and asking for their help. I explained my interest and of course the fact that the BLM survey procedures were dead wrong in that case.
Will see what they respond with?
Keith
The mere mention of Moorhead Engineering brings back a ton of memories. In the 60's, while still attending UofF and working summers and then part time the rest of the year, was promoted to party chief at a time Moorhead had about 30 3-man crews working from Miami to Pensacola. At the age of 19...I was the youngest pc by about 20 to 40 years. This was in the day when angles were “wound” 3 to 6 times, and calcs were performed in the field with pencil/scratch paper/trig function book etc. Anyways, Moorhead had so many records that one of their primary office personnel (this fellow had been with the old man like about 40 years) did nothing but stay in the huge records room putting together research “packages” for party chiefs. Also, the door to the records room had a top half that remained open while the bottom half was locked. No one casually walked into this room. With the huge volume of records Moorhead was in possession of, if they did not have a policy of not giving out “stuff” to other surveyors, the records guy would likely not get anything else done. Dozens, if not hundreds of other surveying companies all across Florida would be contacting Moorhead almost on a weekly basis seeking survey information help if Moorhead was obliging of requests for information. Over the years Moorhead has run out thousands of sections, and the old man was always a stickler for “proven corners”. When I was there in 60's I believe the old man Moorhead which ran the company was a grandson of the original Moorhead. When I was there this company provided only the highest quality of surveying. Also, over the years Moorhead has developed/trained many, many licensed Florida surveyors.
Thanks for your information on Moorhead Engineering.
I can only hope that they do not flippantly ignore my request for information as I believe from information that I have, that their survey was good and should have been accepted by the court.
And I can believe that when I write them about a BLM resurvey back then....that they are done with it.
We will see and maybe they would like to bring this all out again?
Keith
That is pretty much the reputation that I have always heard. I have even been told that they will set section corners with offsets that only they know so only they know the "true" location. Granted, that story is pretty hard to believe but I have been told by other surveyors and by their own office that they don't 'share'.
Griz, is that you?
Compared to south Alabama, NW Florida was a wealth of information.
Even if the 1948 notes cannot be located its evident what the resurvey did based on the 1948 notes. They couldn't find any witness trees from 1948 or the original mark so they declared the corner lost and proportioned it to some distance they saw in the 1948 notes. The fact is that the corner was not lost and the resurvey proves it was obliteratd at worst by recording a chaining to a natural monument near the corner given in the 1835 survey. If they had used the natural monumnet guess where the corner would be? Where they found the monument they rejected. Additionally there was the location of a road to consider and how it relates to the PLSS in the local records. Of course none of this was brought into the court case. The court had to assume the resurvey was on equal footing with the original survey not given any evidence to the contrary.
The story about setting decoy corners isn't so far fetched considering everything! If the same outfit that set the decoy did the 1969 survey they would know where the true corner was. But the resurvey proportions to the decoy?? hmmm
What court case are you guys talking about? I have read through the thread but am kind of lost. Have posts been removed?
Have a great day!
