It was 1972.?ÿ

I was a junior in High School.

This song was the #1 song that spring, it was huge.?ÿ

Later I was drug on a pilgrimage to Clear Lake by brothers of a college buddy of mine.?ÿ

Anyway this song just was covered and I clicked on the new one, and OMG he is singing.?ÿ

And he sounds really good.?ÿ

@holy-cow

I recognize almost each one. I didn't realize the Witch Queen ever made it very far up the charts. That is surprising.?ÿ

The Reverend Al is the stand out for me:

Some people might not realize that Melanie was a Woodstocker.?ÿ

Then she hit the big time with a roller skating song.?ÿ

Age has not been kind to her. She and her son played our venue in 2018, and moving around was difficult for her. Her performance struck me as an effort for her, too.?ÿ

Interesting story about Don McClean:

A young girl named Lori Lieberman went to see Don McClean singing one evening (he was relatively unknown at that time).?ÿ She was said to have not been very excited about going.?ÿ But when she heard him singing the song "Empty Chairs"?ÿit touched her in an unexpected and unpleasant way.?ÿ In her turmoil she scratched down her feelings on a napkin and wrote a song.

A few years later a terrific artist named Roberta Flack recorded this song.?ÿ To me it gives the song a different meaning once you know the back story.

@paden-cash I had never heard that.?ÿ Even if it weren't true it sure would make a good story.
