Hi guys
I have some points to stake out and I'd like to stake out an offset 1metre either side of the feature. The two offset points and the feature will be in line, the offsets will be 2 metres apart and the feature will be in the middle.
I have the points only on a cad file. As far as I can see in Trimble Access you can only stake out offsets on one side of a point by using the Azimuth and horizontal offset 1 and horizontal offset 2.
Is there a straightforward way in Access to set out offset either side of a point?
Thanks Fobos
Good morning,
Take a look at the staking a line settings. You will need to create another point in the direction (azimuth) that you wish to determine to be perpendicular to the offsets you desire to create. There are many options from there in the stake a line routine.
Or use cogo to define your two new points and stake them directly
If you are staking a bunch of random points like maybe streetlights in a big parking lot I would use the traverse routine. First I would look at the overall map and decide on a direction for all the offsets if possible. Assuming that a 0 deg azimuth will work then you key the point, AZ=0.0, distance= 1, store. Traverse again (should be at the point you just stored) with AZ=0.0, distance= -2, store. Check the screen to make sure that the points plot on each side. Should go quick and if there is an FG on the point then the stored points should also have the same FG so you can write cut or fill to FG.
Can you use a negative offset for the 2nd offset?
yes I do it all the time. A great time saver.
I thought I remembered doing that.yes I do it all the time. A great time saver.
I agree with the above for random points. Like light poles etc. but I usually stake the LP then do offset to point choose the direction azimuth etc and distance. For the 2nd hold same azimuth and go the extra distance you want. I usually did this on the fly. LP’s in curb islands etc never had the same azimuth as they usually set the LP after curb is in. For things like manholes I would try and stake a line from one str to the other setting point at 0 station x feet rt or left and one down station -10 ft or so but no offset. Sometimes I could not always keep offsets perpendicular to keep two stakes in safe spot so I would use the bisect angle or using calculator in access in any cogo function subtract the bearings and figure an angle that made the most efficient way for contractor. I always got with whoever was going to be laying the pipe lines and where they wanted to start. Look at your profile sheets on the plans that gives you a pretty good idea of how deep and you have size of pipe so that guides you on how far an offset should be away to be useful.I think on the Trimble access YouTube channel there is a video on ways to offset just a point.
Many thanks for your replies, I appreciate it very much
