Is anyone out there running this setup? I have an SRX-X and I am trying to use carlson Surv CE to run it. It works ok when it has a lock but if I lose lock the communcation breaks down and trying to do sets for traversing has been a nightmare. I didn't see anyone say anything about this set up in previous threads but hoped maybe someone had an answer.

Does the collector look like a Topcon FC-2500?

OK, not the best set up, I have this set up with a Topcon 9003a Robot. The big problem is the Topcon radios, they cause many of the problems I have. Topcon now put the radios on top of the rod and not on the FC2500. This would stop me from ahving to hold the collector up high enough to read the robot less than 600' away. I have to do this even though I can see the robot, but there may be a bump in the road or a car blocking the radio link. Power lines cause a big problem with the radios, try not to set up under them unless you will be close. Another hassle is if you brush a line out so you would be shooting in a "tunnel" whether in the woods or buildings, it has big probelms with that.

Carlson software needs to keep a angle stream coming from the robot, it that stream is broken it will have cominication isues and you'll get errors and you will have to hit bittuns and swear to get through that.
Carlson said the only way to stop need for the angle steam is to go back to main menu and then get back into your program when your reading agaian. I did see they have a new update that would turn off the angle stream by hitting the track button, I think that was one of my suggestions.

A tip would be: always hit unlock when you think you will loose lock. If I'm setting a point I will do this while I set then hit track to lock again.

Although the robot will read the first reading when using traverse if any conditions stated in paragraph one exist, it may have probelms with the second readings. Don't push the limits as much as possile.

I have had mine for about 2 years and ahve found out what it's limits are and I have not been a frustated lately as I was. I used to use a Leica and did not have these problerms, so it was a big change.

Feel free to ask me questions and I'll try to answer them.

Forrest

The reason I was asking on here was no one there evidently was able to answer our questions. This seems to have them stumped and I guess they gave up cause I never heard back. My radio is actually on the RC-PR4 not the DC. So even when I connect directly to the gun trying to turn sets it just looses connectivity due to data issues I think, not actual radio problems.

My first robot was an SRX-3 with Carlson Surveyor +. I guess it's not the best combo as no one will use it but me...we also have (4) S6 robots with Trimble collectors.

I think the third party software (Carlson) doesn't play well with the SRX. Shots on the Trimble S6 are almost instant...while on the SRX there is a major (full second or 2) lag...very frustrating while doing topo. Sometimes it works well, and I don't hate it...other times I want to throw it in the Susquehanna River.
Our SRX-3 works on long range blue-tooth (not a radio)...not sure about the SRX-X.
If you have specific questions, feel free to call...I think my # is in the profile.

I was told that the comminication through the RC does work, but not as good as radios. I could use it as a back up. There are some new radios out there that I hear are real good. Find someone who has these and demo them with your gun, it may solve the probelm.

I still think the probelm is that your loosing the angle stream that Carlson needs in order to work. Whether your using the RC or radios once that angle stream is broken, you will have issues.
