Wish me luck

I doubt she makes it.
?ÿ
Put her in the truck and take her to the vet.
?ÿ
Or put her in the truck and take her to Nate!
🙂
I've no clue how long she had been hung up in the fence but she could not get up. Her leg did not appear too bad but I am sure she just wore herself out trying to get unstuck. Bugs (or something) had eaten the eye on the side of her face that was on the ground.
I found the adjoiner and he came out and shot her.
That's sad, I killed a big buck that was tangled up in barbed wire fence years ago.

I'm not sure but several States (Washington?) have authorized taking of roadkill for the meat without a tag or permit, although you do have to report it.?ÿ An expensive way to take game (vehicle damage).?ÿ I'll admit to doing so in the '70s; I mean if you come around a corner and there's a dead deer?ÿ there still steaming why not take it home, dress it out and have bonus meat in the freezer.?ÿ I'm sure it was illegal back then.
Many years ago I hit a big buck square in the head and it went sliding down the side of the shoulder. I thought that since I had hit it in the head the rest would be good but boy was I wrong. Even though I hit it in the head I can only assume that the shock of the hit and the sliding down the road ruptured all the insides.
I would not recommend anybody ever consider the foolish idea of salvaging a road kill deer no matter how "safe" you think it might be.
As for the young doe I found it was obvious she had been in that fence for a while and any animal that has had adrenaline flowing for a long time the meat is ruined.
I was surveying near a forest preserve outside a big city one year and we ran into a deer in the ditch that was hoppin around with a leg gone. We called the ranger and he said the deer had both hind legs missing and he said he shot it. He said if it had one leg gone he would have let it go as they have lots of three legged deer running around. Soooo, I think your land owner should have let the deer go. I mean if they can make it with three legs why not with one eye? Deer are tough.
Many years ago we had one hanging out near a highway that had a broken front leg that had sort of been tossed up over the neck such that the hoof flopped around next to the ear on the opposite side. I know it was around for over a month. Very awkward.
I watched her for a while and then left her for a couple of hours and she was not able to get up and could only lay on the ground and flail around.
She was beyond recovery.
