Im looking to setup my R10 to broadcast via NTRIP with the intent to receive those "corrections" on a non-Trimble rover (in this case a Riegl VZ400 but this shouldn't matter too much).
I dont believe I can use Trimble's IBSS because I would be locked into the Trimble Connect ecosphere.
I do something similar often for drone work by connecting my DC to the internet (via my phone or MiFi) and jumping into the base stations GUI and setting it up that way but that requires the DC to be close the base. Is there any way to either insert a SIM card into the base with a data plan and broadcast via NTRIP without the data collector having to be nearby or connecting the base to a MiFi?
we used to do this using R10's. But, the onboard modem was 3G, so when 3G sunseted (is that a word?) we could no longer do that.
What I do now is I use a small cell modem with wifi and a sim card from simbase. Using simbase I can turn the sim on and off and also turn on a static IP. Pay by the day.
So I have the R10 setup to connect as a client to the modem via wifi. It also works with my Alloys either wifi or by ethernet cable. the modem passes the connection through to the R10, so the result is the R10 has a static IP and can deliver RTCM, CMRx, whatever is needed
As @john-hamilton says it can be done.
But both connection and server can be fiddly to setup.
Big hint here is to have Static-IP addresses.
Also having some understanding network transport security, IP-Ports and how NTRIP uses them.
As your R10 has only a 3G modem it is unlikely that you can use it directly with a SIM card anymore. I'd be thinking to use WiFi instead
You can configure and start your base with either Access or the WebUI
I found a way without a static IP address by uploading the data to a remote server (RTK2Go.com). For some reason I couldnt get my R10 to connect to an external modem (WiFi at my house) but the R12 worked just fine with the same settings. Any ideas?
Beyond that it was very simple. Create an account with RTK2Go, create a survey style using appropriate connection settings and it's no different than a radio connection.

With this server upload, what (if any) latency or delay do you see? - RTK requires timely corrections for accuracy
@jimcox I've just started playing around with it this morning so can't comment on any sort of testing yet.
Im wide open to other options though and it could be fun to do some testing or comparisons. Are you aware of any "tutorial" on how to create a static IP and operate the base as it's own server and bypass the need to upload the data?

Static IP address for the base connection is allocated by your cellular or network provider - they give you the IP address and promise it wont change - usually it costs extra.
There is a company called DAC that can provide a sim card with a static IP address without the $500 setup fee the phone companies like to charge and the monthly charge is about the same
Once you have the static IP are you using Access at all or do you do everything in the receivers GUI?
I see there's an option in Access for the base to act as it's own server if you have a static IP & if the base is getting internet connection from the controller but that's obviously not ideal.
I should add that you can run your own NTrip server, which I do sometimes. You do not need a static IP, just a dynamic DNS service (I use No-IP).
SNIP ( https://www.use-snip.com) has a free version that will work fine for a up to 3 bases. And unlimited rovers. I have the basic version, which I got a few years ago for quite a bit less than the current $1200. But the free version works fine for simple setups. Not at all difficult to setup. It will also work with serial data.
