There are a few Section 83's around, several in Louisiana, if I remember, correctly.

Lots of Mineral claims out there around Oatman per the original GLO survey but Im wondering if it just got miss stamped and was intended to be the 1/4 for 33 and 34.

Were you by chance in that area? South of Town, East of the Oatman-Topock Hwy?

Some of the mineral Claim reference numbers were in the 80's.

Any corner find is a good find in my book.:good:

Those numbers look raised instead of stamped into the cap.

Stamped. Don't know what that cap is intended to represent without looking at the GLO Plat, even a Quad Map should do it. Mineral Claim?, didn't know they monumented 1/4 corners on their common lines. Could be the common 1/4 corner between Sections 33 & 34 or something else, a look in a book is called for.

We have plenty sections here in Louisiana that exceed 36. Has to do with old land grant sections that existed before the PLSS came into play.

BUT MORE INTERESTING is the $250 fine for removal in 1915.

In 1900 $3.48 had the same purchasing power as $100 today. So conservatively figuring $4 in 1915, that means the ration of 100/4 which is 25 would be multiplied by $250 to give the impact of the penalty in 1915! $6,250!!

I was about 3 or 4 miles west of Oatman. There are lots of mining claims around Oatman, but none that far to the west.

I'm guessing that is a 1/4 corner for both section 33 and 34, but where's the center punch? As for the "8", they probably didn't want to waste a marker, so they figured that anyone seeing it would just figure out that it's supposed to be a 3. I mean, even 100 years later, it's still in the middle of nowhere.

What center punch? The GLO didn't put a punch mark on their caps. Anywhere on the cap is good.

Wrong Stamp, Looks Like S83/S34 To Me

Only the first numeral is an 8.
