That was a very savage bear attack, and I think it might have occurred because there were cubs around. I know Diane Nelson quite well, although I haven't seen her since my retirement. She is a sweet gal and a good surveyor. You can see right were that bears tooth went in just above her eyeball.

I once read that more people are attacked by black bears than Grizzlies. People think they are just big teddy bears and don't give then the respect they should.
Just remember, you don't have to out run the bear, just your rod man.
