Anyone willing to e-mail me a "short" contract sample? The one I'm using is way too long and outdated in my opinion and I'd like to change it. Thanks in advance. jbi54 at yahoo dot com will work just fine.

Don't have one. 99% of my contracts are on letterhead. It includes the essentials: the parties involved (client/surveyor); reference to the project; scope of work; what I will provide (included); what is not included (but obviously can be for additional fee); terms of payment; my signature; their signature, including printed name and title; date. Usually fits on one page.

Sometimes they come back with their contract that always contains the legalese I think you're looking for. No problem, but I always condition on my initial submitted one for scope and included/not included items, at a minimum. Otherwise, just negotiate again.

The book "A Pocket Guide to Business for Engineers and Land Surveyors" has a short form contract in it. The book is worth the price without it.
