Does anyone here have any experience running a Nikon DTM-A20 in Sokkia Set mode in Carlson SurvCE??ÿ SurvCE does not have a configuration for the Topgun, so I am trying to run it in Sokkia Set mode.?ÿ Gun is set to Sokkia Set mode.?ÿ Survce is set to Sokkia mode, but the data collector (TSC2) cannot connect to the gun.?ÿ I am using a standard Nikon data cable.?ÿ Does Sokkia mode require a different pin configuration than the standard Nikon Cable??ÿ Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thx!

Kevin

The Nikon cable is the correct cable to use.?ÿ I would look at the default settings to be certain the baud rate and parity are correct.?ÿ It looks as if Carlson defaults 9,600 for the baud rate.?ÿ I suspect that the baud rate on the instrument is set to 4,800; Data bits: 8, Parity: None; Stop Bits: 1

If 4,800 does not work, i would try 2,400 next, then 1,200.

One other word of caution, based on my own experience from 20+ years past: be careful not to rotate the instrument head while it is turned off or powered down through a time out.?ÿ It will wake up with the same horizontal angle in it that was in it when it was last on thought it will no longer be correct.?ÿ This fact was the source of more than one traverse error where I used to work...

Topcon mode and Nikon mode are different and require different cables.

Use Nikon

TopGun settings?ÿ ?ÿ4800 / None / 8 / 1

use Zenith angles - if an elevation shows up as horizontal angle use Vertical angles

Sokkia and Topcon use the same cable and the pinouts are different from the Nikon. If the Nikon is in Sokkia mode I would use a Topcon Cable. Years ago when my Trimble was in the shop I rented or borrowed a Nikon, various Topcons, so I bought a Topcon, Nikon and a Pentax cable for good measure. Never used the Pentax cable but will not part with it. You never know what comes along. I never got comfortable with SurvCE so am using an SMI HP 48 in an old black TDS case. Have three functioning Sokkias.
