I am interested in purchasing a new robotic instrument. This would be my first en devour into robotics. Currently we run Top-con and Sokia total stations, and also a leica gs12 rtk gps. I would like to here what robotic Instrument you are using and why you like them or dislike them, to help in my purchase.

There was an extended discussion about robots just a couple of days ago, [msg=260222]you want to look down the list for that[/msg]. I am one who likes the Leica TS15, and since you already have a GS12 in the family that seems a natural.
Thanks for the info did not look at other threads. We are field testing ts15 today.
If you are feeling progressive you may want to drool over the MS50. I'm sure that the salesman has talked to you about that.
Oh yes tried to, but way it of price range.
The MS50 looks like a great instrument. What is the price range for one of those in the US?
About $50,000 from what I understand.
The instrument list price is $ 47,500 and that includes dual keyboards and all of the bells and whistles for the physical instrument. If you install the SMartWorx base software reference line application and Traverse supplication that would be $ 1150.00. After that you would need to decide if you were going full robotic and add the COM devices and a CS15 controller. The MS50 only comes as a 1 second instrument.

Only chumps pay retail 😀
Agreed... just have to put out list price.
That is a similar price to what i paid 8 years ago for a high accuracy S6, full robotic. Maybe a few $1000 more. Or maybe my memory is faulty. So maybe not out of line. But it sounds like you need more to go full robotic?
Mark we talked about you bringing one of those down here... we're not presently in the market but I'd still love to give it a test drive.
Depending on what all you purchased and whether or not your dealer discounted or offered a trade-in, you could easily have been into $42K on an S6 package.
I like Leica instruments and the TS15 looks pretty good, but I can't get past 2 things when comparing with the S6:
- 45 deg/sec rotation speed vs 115 deg/sec with the S6;
- No option for active tracking
Both of these make a huge difference when it comes to maintaining and regaining lock, and the S6 will not track anything but the Multi Track target when you specify it.
We use the Topcon QS we liked it so much we brought another one.
I have it on my list. I would really like to get your opinion! We have it loaned out right now for evaluation with a customer. As soon as I can get it back in I will see if we can schedule a demo.

I have both, The Leica is superior to the Trimble without the multi-track and I don't think that the multitrack makes $2000 worth of difference when it comes to comparing the Leica to the Trimble.

One big weakness that is inherent in the S6 and VX for that matter is the magdrive. It's very floaty when trying to hold onto an angle. You'll notice your angle change if a breeze hits it, while it still maintains lock on the target.
The VX and S6 are both very nice instruments, but I'll be giving the MS50 a hard look next time I'm in the market, specifically for the ceramic plates in the drive mechanism.

I wouldn't give way to dogma, if you try em both you'll see that they are about the same.
Here's the S8

I want an MS50! Now, if only I could find a way to keep it busy...
