RM tool is configured properly as well as my 1201 (channels and ports, baud rates etc). Green solid is on on and red solid is on too once I turn on the DC, but I can't read any information from the instrument on the DC...power search is not working... What's causing this? I just bought RH1200 and try to configure it...

Thanks.

Is this a new setup? If so, do you have GeoCom on the TPS?

John,
Thanks for the response. Yes, it's a new setup and Geocom shows up under devices... so I assume it's on the TPS, no? I was able to define channel, com, baud rate etc...

GeoCom will show up under devices even if you do not have the license to use it. Basically, the license allows you to utilize it with devices from another manufacture. A RX1250 running Smartworks or a CS15 with viva communicates with GeoCom but you do not need the license (thus seeing it under the devices menu). You can check under the instrument status to verify if you have the license.

Good luck, on a 1200 it is a $995 add on. On the bright side, some instruments were shipped with it for an additional $0.01.

LSITNJ,

John is correct about the GeoCOM status. You probably already have the GeoCOM license installed if it is a TPS1200. You can still connect to the instrument if you do not have the GeoCOM license but the high-end commands that involve motorization features will not work if you do not.

This is probably one of two things....

1. Simple one first... you need to make sure the Link Number on the instrument and the Link Number on the radio on the Allegro are exactly the same. The Lin Number is not a channel but a pattern used for the frequency hopping technique used. It is easy to see the link number on the RM Config tool on the Allegro and make sure the Allegro radio is set in Remote mode. To check this on the instrument --- Main menu choose 5 Config... -> Next choose 4 Interfaces... -> then highlight the GeoCOM Mode -> You should have this set to Port 2 Device RH1200 -> Still highlighting the GeoCOM mode you should see F4 (CTRL) -> Select F4 (CTRL) -> Set the Link number the same as shown in the RM Config Tool on the Allegro and Set As: field to Base. This should connect the two radios.

2. To long to type on post - There are to bands used in the Allegro radio pod and some of the Leica radios. The RH1200 uses the International band and the radio pod in the Allegro needs to be set to the same band. The process is simple but it would take too long to type it up. I can talk you through it over the phone if you still cannot get them connected. Just email me if you need to get to this stage. You just need to edit some things inside the RM Config Tool to access the Service mode for the pod. This was a common issue some time ago if the Allegro was originally used with say the Leica TCPA27 radios. Just email me.

Hope this helps. It is a simple setting somewhere.

Mark,
I just had to purchase a GeoCOM license for our 1201 which was a real surprise to me since our 1203 came with it. It seems that Leica flip flopped on issuing it at some point. My 1201 was one of the first delivered in the northwest and did not come with a GeoCOM License. I purchased a 1203 a couple of years later and it did in fact come with GeoCOM, I think it cost an extra $0.01.

What really hurts is that I purchased it for the 1201 to utilize it in tracking our Amberg GPR1000 but it looked like the gun was giving us some sloppy readings. I ended up putting it on our MS50, which was cheaper, and using it to track the trolley. The real salt in the wound was that the MS50 got the same results, there was just that much movement on the viaduct we were working on.

Mike,

Thanks for this, but no luck... I found the setting that controls the worldwide vs. US band... no luck...

John,

Yes... when the TPS1200 firswt came out I think it was a year maybe two before the NA market just started including the GeoCOM license.

LSITNJ,

Just a couple of questions I have to ask before suggesting something else...

1. Did you select the International for the band on the Allegro radio pod and programmed it after making the selection?

2. Does the power light on the RH1200 (left most LED) come on when the instrument is powered?

3. Is the right most light on the RH1200 (!) on when the instrument is powered and is it red?

4. Please remove the RH1200 (do not worry if instrument is on or off) and seat it again on the instrument while placing extra pressure on the right side of the handle where the connection is made. The rubber gasket that seals the connection sometimes takes a little extra pressure to make the Handle seat properly. You have probably already been doing this.

I think we could try to warm boot the Allegro (hold down power button until it reboots)... reprogram the radio pod.. if the RMCONFIG tools is interfacing correctly with radio pod I suspect nothing is wrong with the Allegro side.... make sure Allegro radio is set to remote mode...

You may need to delete the RH1200 from the system and then bring it back to have Factory defaults. I can type that up later.

Re: Frequency band is Leica Worldwide, Transmit power: 100mW

2. Does the power light on the RH1200 (left most LED) come on when the instrument is powered?
Re: Green light on RH1200 is on solid (left most LED)

3. Is the right most light on the RH1200 (!) on when the instrument is powered and is it red?
Re: No, the right most light never turned on. After I go to Instrument setup on CX and hit green check mark, second from the left turns red solid and third from the left blinks green for few seconds and goes off.

4. Please remove the RH1200 (do not worry if instrument is on or off) and seat it again on the instrument while placing extra pressure on the right side of the handle where the connection is made. Re: No progress... I can spin the axis of the instrument with arrows on the dc, but still no BS check, I can send zero only, not able to read any data (ang, dist) from the instrument...

Thanks again.

LSITNJ,

You are communicating with the Allegro via the radio pod to the RH1200 radio handle if you can turn the instrument using the keys on the Allegro. Your last
post describes a successful connection. SO it has to be one or both of the following licenses are missing....

A. On Carlson SurvCE you need to have the Robotics license to have all of the "remote control" functionality. I do not have an Allegro but I am sure you can view your licenses under the About SurvCE options which I think is on the first screen of options from memeory.

and/or

B. You need the Extended GeoCOM license activated on your TPS1200... You need to look at the System Information listing. From main menu select the USER key (just above yellow up arrow) --> the select F3 (STAT) --> Then select 3 System Information --> While you are viewing the Instrument page scroll down to you see the Extd GeoCOM option. If this is YES then you have the needed license installed...if it says NO you need to purchase the Extended GeoCOM license Art. No. 734754 - GeoCOM Robotics License (TPS1200). I need to reasearch the list price on the license key.

Let me know if you still have issues after inspecting the licenses situation on the TPS1200 and also in Carlson.

Mark,

I'm not the "lucky guy"...:-)) Extd GeoCom is not registered. Carlson has robotic license on. How much is it? Thanks!

It's a little under a grand if I remember correctly. They used to give them away, but those days are long gone.

Will is right.... I looked it up and the list price is $ 950.00 for the Art. No. 734754 - GeoCOM Robotics License (TPS1200) - do not shoot the messenger 🙂

Yep,

$950 is what I paid for it in February. Seems kind of expensive for something they were giving away. But such is life.

Happy New Year.
