Range Pole Point monument

I guess I get sorta excited about finding this stuff. Surveyor in 1956 set a steel range pole point for the monument. We dug through 6" of asphalt and found another older layer with the point in it. I can read "Dietzgen" near the top of the point. No threads on the inside. Part of the wood pole that was in the point is still inside after I cleaned it up. We set a couple of iron pipes (upper and lower) with a 2" aluminum cap on the top one and a protective 4" ring around it. GPS position coming tomorrow.

That is something that I would have never, ever thought of using for a monument.
