No. They wasted my time for the third time. It's beyond ridiculous. They all were told no plans, no meeting. More than a week ahead.

Me. "What's the difference?"
T.C. Carroll "It's the difference between right and wrong!"

Yes, I agree

DOT knew they were meeting a surveyor and nobody can show him a set of plans

That is disrepectful

Stacy,

I don't believe that you were out of line at all.?ÿ What your actions have done was to put them on notice that you wish to make informed decisions, know which information to request to become properly informed, and will not be schmoozed or placated with half-answers delivered to sound like the impact on you will be minimal and benefit to you reasonable, but without informing you of the full scope and having nothing documented about what you were told about the project.

If you don't already, you should have a lawyer lined up in case they continue to stonewall or if things start getting contentious.?ÿ Being assertive about insisting on being properly informed is not disrespectful.?ÿ Neither is refusing to be a door mat excessively rude.

Many public servants and correspondingly, the culture of many public agencies have lost touch with the meaning of the term "public service" and need gentle but firm reminding from time to time.

In California it is called a PRA request.?ÿ PRA=Public Records Act.?ÿ FOIA is Federal (maybe some States use it too).

On some things we have to tell the requester to file a PRA request because of Department Policy.?ÿ PRA goes to Legal which then sends out the request to the responsible party who then sends it all back to Legal who gives it over to the requester with the invoice.?ÿ Copy fees are pretty cheap.
