I'm looking at CEU course on Florida MTS where the question is:
I find an un-marked iron pipe 0.12' south and 0.14' west of my calculated boundary corner location. What must I do?
a. Pull the iron pipe up and re-set it at the calculated location.
b. Just locate it where it is and show fallings from the calculated position on the survey.
c. Set a new monument at my calculated location.
d. Worry about it on Monday.
I think all the answers are wrong.
I'm pretty sure that Florida MTS gives me the option of accepting the corner as the true boundary monument, (marked or unmarked), then showing record vs. measured bearing/distance to and from the monument. Sounds like this MTS course was written by a deed staker.

The correct answer is "None of the above".

Not enough information on the question, and not enough good possible answers.
For example, if the unmarked found pipe was at the center quarter and only "off" by a tenth based upon a section breakdown, I sure would accept it.

I don't think Florida MTS allows for that. It's pretty specific that we show record vs. measures dimensions when they vary. I think the idea of showing "fallings" from the calc'ed corner to the monumented corner is generally frowned upon (or laughed at) by surveyors.
Exactly ... a couple tenths from my calc'ed position is acceptable for me for most of the surveys I do.
E. set 6" diameter cap so the true corner can be re-dimpled as necessary.
e. Hold the iron pipe as the boundary corner.

I would say (d) "worry about it on Monday" is the least wrong. At least you could think about it over the weekend, knowing you haven't done the wrong thing, and come Monday - ignore a b & c, and do the right thing.
I prefer "set found iron pipe", I always find monuments where I thought they would be B-)

Does "fallings" always mean the cardinal distances off from calculated ?? Or could it be interpreted as showing record and measured? I always use R/M.

I've interpreted the "fallings" to mean the situation where the survey says "Found 5/8" Iron Rod 0.14' west and 0.12' south of true corner" ... or some such thing. I think that method was common at one time locally, but I've only seen that used a couple of times in the last 15-20 years.

Since I wrote the course as well as the questions, there is a correct answer that I am looking for and surprisingly, it is one of the ones listed.
Guess they do things differently out in La-La Land...
So Joe, what is the correct answer?

You are over thinking this. Just consider the answers provided. Most who have taken the course selected the "set a new corner" answer although one bozo answered that he would pull the corner. He was also the only one who ever failed the course test the first time.
But you are correct in that it is your choice whether to hold the corner or not. If this had been a essay test then you could have stated that as your answer and passed with flying colors!
And for the record, I'm not a "deed staker" either.
