I retraced a 1987 R/S which has this measurement among a bunch of sections surveyed. My measurement is 0.02' longer in the quarter mile. I'm going out there tomorrow to toe that big aluminum monument over 2 hundredths BRU HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The task is to survey a 3" steel water pipeline relative to the aliquot lines. No one knew exactly where the pipe line is located. We know where the spring and tank is and where it cames into the fire station but there is half a mile in between. We were traversing north on the center of section line when we come across a line of white carsonite posts. At first I thought it was just marking a trail into the National Forest. Then I thought hey maybe it is the water line (serves our fire station from a spring). So I get the schoenstedt out and it sings. Dig down one foot and there it is, I'll be darned. I had plans to bring the Engineer's pipe line locator out but now that doesn't look to be necessary.

I would be more interested in knowing if you bend your sec. line through a 1/16 sec. cor., that is not on the curved east-west section line?

There is a 3/4" iron pipe at the 1/64th corner between them and it is 2' off line although the measurement is within a tenth or so. This is rough foothill terrain in Nevada County. I don't think anyone is going to lose their mind over 2' up there.

Maybe I should draw up a map showing the "problem" and submit it to the owners so they can go see the Judge, naw, I don't think I'll worry about it.

Here is the quarter section corner:

Here is the sixteenth corner:

Poison Oak???

Is that a poison oak witness to the 1/16 corner? My daughter and her family moved to Grass Valley a couple of years ago. I CAN'T BELIEVE how much of that stuff is around. How do folks who work out in it, deal with it??

Poison Oak???

It looks like Poison Oak, but it could be a little Black Oak seedling.
I'm pretty sure Dave would have cleared the P.O. out before messing around in there.
Then again he may be immune and doesn't care. I'm immune but I'm still careful because I've passed it to my wife more than once.

Don

Edit: you know, the more I look, I think it IS Poison Oak.

Yes, I know where it is. But it wasn't actually ever lost.

LightSquared is holding that level of our precision hostage. 🙂

Poison Oak???

I shivered as soon as I saw that photo. It's amazing how sharply I react to the sight of poison oak or anything closely resembling it, the result of many unpleasant encounters with it since childhood.

Poison Oak???

yes there is a lot of poison oak around that corner.

I am not immune to it but I don't get it too bad. It's part of the job.
