The first deer tick I've ever had embedded. Luckily I found it just after I got done the field work.

Keep an eye on the bite site. If this shows up get your butt to a Dr. ASAP.

Take care!

I rarely have a tick latch onto me either. I always pick them off when I feel them crawling around.

When I do get bite, the muscles near the bite get sore. For example if I were to get bit on my Trapezius muscle area (top of the shoulders near the neck), I will have deep muscle pain for 2 days and it will be slightly painful to turn my neck.

I think it is an allergic reaction to the saliva of the tick that is meant prevent clotting of the small blood vessels.

Other times I will simply get a small knot at the bite site.
I have had a minor rash near the bite, which I think is normal.

I believe if you get a angry circular rash near the bite, then you should be worried.

Perry

Other than feeling creepy for a while, you will PROBABLY be OK. It seems to take about 24 hours, or more, for the tick to start feeding, so if you had no ticks this morning, and you found it this afternoon, you should be good.

That being said, watch the bite. I tend to get a red mark that looks like raw meet and it itches like crazy for days. If you see "the rash" see your doctor. I have never had "the rash."

If you get flue like symptoms, see your doctor! This is not something you can tough out if the ticks get you.

You really have to remember to check every evening after being in the field, and you should check again in the morning for the one you missed last night. (I've found a few that way.) Not all ticks carry disease. Not all diseased tick bites will make you sick, but it only takes one to make you wish you were not complacent.

Ken

I am still dealing with the aftermath of tick fever.
I had a bad day yesterday. Many sentences I started, I could not finish, due to simply "I forgot what I was saying". Maybe 15-20 times in yesterday. This is while trying very hard to concentrate. This is very frustrating. Some of my kids thought I was mad at them, but I simply was having an impossible time maintaining my train of thought. Some days are worse than others. Yesterday was bad. Usually it requires concentration to stand up, without leaning on something. My equilibrium is messed up. It is kind of like a stroke victim, who has to learn to walk again. In my case, I can walk fine. But standing up, requires deliberate concentration.

Make sure you are tick free, before they get their poison into you.

Nate
