A while back I had lunch with a couple of buddies. We're all surveyors and business owners. We're all three also keenly interested in "real surveying"...You know, digging holes 6 feet deep, finding old bearing trees that everyone else has missed...real students of the "history" of our profession I like to think.
You know what the topic of conversation was during our lunch?
Taxes and business management, that's what.
How pitifully boring.
One of my New Year's Resolution for 2013 is to pay more attention to what I like about this business. Rooting around in the woods and making things right.
Too many times this last year I completed projects that I wish I could've spent more time on, but the "clock was ticking.." and deadlines are deadlines.
This year I'm going to have more fun as a surveyor. I might even get dog-bit...:-D
Happy New Year to all the other "swingin' plumb-bobs" out there. Let's all make a living AND have fun doin' it.
over and out

...Having fun...just dug the rig out from under 12" of ARKANSAS snow (and pine limbs)...looking forward to the new year!

(just a swingin'...)

I hear ya, Paden. Seems like all I do anymore is navigate a desk. After 11 years in Nome, I was "promoted" to General Project Superintendent. Sheesh, everybody else gets to have all the fun, I get the paper work. I remember when I used to like my job! Good luck with getting back to the basics!

But you're a "General", can't you do whatever you want?
The fiscal cliff don't bite ya!

Reminds me of the story that Professor told once: "If you are selling fishing flies for a buck apiece, but they cost you 1.25 each to make, what you need is to produce them faster!"
🙂

NO!
I thought I was the boss!
-JD-
I had an old boss who called us woods detectives.
I liked that - It was too cool!
It is more like pit bull dodgers now...
Nothing like having a couple of those sneak up
on you and say - MMMMMMMMM Lunch...
Goooooood dog sometimes works - it is all in the eye contact.
Don't try to pet them though!
:-O
