I have protected prism rods in the bed of the truck with one of two methods: (1) PVC pipe sleeves and (2) styrofoam housing insulation.  Are there other ways?  Opinions? Ideas?

I suspend my rod from the roof of the topper with a web fishing rod holder.?ÿ That way they are out of the way and do not vibrate out of adjustment.?ÿ I do have PVC tubes for level rods and signs.

Similar to the fishing rod holder which might have been a better idea,?ÿ I attached a piece of 1x3 with holes drilled in it to one of the forward ribs on the ceiling of the van for the pointy end of the rod. The business end is held in place with a broom holder attached to another ceiling rib.?ÿ This holds all the poles in our van out of the way and they don't rattle around.?ÿ I never leave the glass attached though.?ÿ?ÿ

With any style of holder a primary concern is that the thing won't become a javelin in a traffic accident. Keeping it from rattling around comes second, and economy of truck space is third.

Here is my setup.?ÿ I've had these particular straps for 15 plus years and the Velcro enclosures on the back gave up the ghost long ago.?ÿ They have been replaced by the white cord.?ÿ I should thing about finding a new set but these still get the job done.

The tubes on the opposite wall hold road signs and a 25ft fiberglass rod.

@norman-oklahoma

That's the first thing I thought of.  Maybe pointy end toward the vehicle side.

@brad-ott I have two pair of double gun mounts on top of my truck box that has a rail around it so I can carry 4 rods with bipods and use a ratchet rope to hold them down.

The bubbles stay calibrated very well.

@john-putnam

FYI,

A quick and dirty replacement for velcro ties that go bad is to replace them with velcro cable ties.  I use them for the bottom of bi-pods, and my brush hook case.  Easy to use 1 to extend another one too if you need.

@toivo1037

After looking at the photos I decided it was time to part w/ $20 and replace it with a crisp new model.  I found them on Amazon.  I had some of Velcro strips before I went to the rope.  The real thing is quicker, holds better and looks a pit more sharp.  Besides, Jeff needs my money 😉 .
