Good morning,
?ÿ
Does anyone know of a device that will allow one to see if the bubble is centered on a prism pole. I find that looking at the pole bubble from an angle gives an incorrect appearance.
The right angle prism on my level instrument allows me to look down at the prism and can easily show if it is centered.?ÿ
Currently I use a mirror to look and the prism pole bubble, but, that is awkward.

I think I found something... They are talking about the device making it safer in traffic. I wonder if it's application allows for better leveling from being able to sight the bubble directly rather than at an angle.

Heads up would have advantages, but just mounting the bubble lower on the rod and looking down would fix the angle problem with simpler hardware.
I have several of them that I used with my fixed height tripods which never seem to keep an adjustment.?ÿ The heads up are nice because they don't get bounced around and seem to stay in adjustment longer.
I can see where that would be really handy in cases where you can get the shot from one side of a fence or other obstruction but you can't get a decent look down on the level without crossing over first.

That heads up gadget looks pretty slick.
It depends on the level bubble. My Leica poles have an optic lens that views the bubble correctly, even at an lower altitude of view. My cheaper GPS tri-poles just have a piece of glass and must be viewed from above.?ÿ
Yes - When I had to shoot the tops of some fire hydrants, I slid the bubble down the pole so I could see it - and it's stayed there ever since.
I used to get the bipod and pole leveled up good and solid and go beside the pole to check the bubble from 90 degrees to the side. After doing that a ton of times I got pretty good at judging the parallax and it was always basically perfect when I checked it from the side. I still do it for important control points or if I am shooting something higher than normal but for most of the work I have to do I'm plenty precise enough looking at the bubble from a normal position.
It was worse though when I was using the Sokkia with the RC unit on top of the prism. That big clunky annoying thing made it impossible to get your head as close to being over top of the bubble, so there would be more parallax.?ÿ
Do you have a photograph or a model number so that I can see what it looks like? I tried Google and did get an image and notes that said the vial was precise to 8 minutes. That is way more precise than the SECO 40 minute vial I was looking at.

I am a little surprised there isn't a rock n' roll band with the name Parallax yet.
