I have a dip needle. First I find the spike, pipe or rebar with my magnetic locator then very extremely slowly pass the dip needle over the spot and it might dip.

The Garrett pin pointers are great for finding a dime or something metalic from about 2 or 3 inches. Not sure what you're looking for. A silver dime, sure, an iron pin, you're better with a $25 knockoff wand or a compass.?ÿ

It's a handy tool when I know where to look.

Thatƒ??s it, I guess I am buying one. ?ÿMost of my recon these days begin with LOOK coordinates that are usually within a couple~few feet.

I carry a Javad J-Tip. All the time.

It has to work through the LS, as the j-tip has no speaker, and no display. It's great for the long hikes, and I carry a ditchbank blade. It digs, and cuts brush.

I have a Garrett carrot. It stays at the ATV.

The carrot can miss stuff. But it can detect non iron. Like aluminum nails in witness trees.

The carrot is 20 bucks on eBay.

J-tip is 850. Very different creatures.

I have a shonstedt and a subsurface locator. I prefer an independent locator, so I can work, while the LS is working. Unless it's a long hike. There the j-tip shines.

@antcrook Yes, works good.?ÿ But you do have to have the Javad Triumph LS to use it.?ÿ Those 2 and a 2 foot folding army shovel with one edge serrated.?ÿ Maybe 6 or 7 pounds in a small pack with some water.?ÿ Keeps my boots muddy and my back straight in my aging practice.

2.4 lbs, retracts for easier packing, and it's a Schonstedt.

@duane-frymire It looks like it also works through Javad Mobile Tools.
